Cigar lighter lights up?

When the main lights are turned on, the front and rear fog lights and rear windscreen heater switches are illuminated. Is the cigar lighter also supposed to light up? The dealer I bought from says no and as a 993 newbie I'm not sure this is correct...

Thanks for all info on leaking dampers. Waiting for dealer to look at it now so interesting to see what they come back with!

Very much enjoying all the help and info from this forum :)

Cheers

Mine does not light up (but neither does the rear screen heater knob unless I switch it on)
Arn't they great switches - like pulling out the stops on a big church organ.
Better than the rockers down on the console.

.

I'm sure the switches are carried over from a 70s VW Beetle.

The cigar lighter lights up from the inside, but not the outside.
(Try saying that when you're pi*sed)

Had the same problem - the lighter should light up. Might need to change the bulb (pull back rubber from around the plastic insert with the cigarette symbol on it to access the bulb, insert pops out and voila the bulb). On mine all I had to do was tighten up the bulb rather than replacing it.

Good luck

Smoking damages your health. They know that at Porsche so they decided to make use of the Cig lighter as difficult as possible [:D]

There is a technical reason behind all this only I don't really know what it is. I'm sure Maurice will post it shortly.

My rear screen heater switch also doesn't light up unless turned on. Are you all saying that it should light up anyway?

Just to throw my 10 pence worth in, my cigar lighter does not light up either when all lights are on and I thought this was the norm.

Very interesting. One of life's conundrums has been answered. Thanks. Just to complicate matters my other pull out switches light up intermittently so assume loose bulbs. Will attack them tomorrow.

Oh blimey, we're all obliged to check our lighty-knob things now!
Can't have a couple of us having more lighty-things showing can we?

I use mine (cigar lighter socket, that is) to plug in the road angel; never used it otherwise.

Hmm. There's no bulb in my cigar lighter - never has been as far as I can tell. The foglights and heated rear window knobs light up dimly when the side lights are on, and then become much brighter when pulled.

As far as I can remember my 964 and 3.2 carrera cigar lighters didn't light up either.

I am pleased to report that this did not affect the performance of either car in any way.
