cigar lighter

my cigar lighter doesn't work. My worry is that i need it to work, otherwise wont be able to pump up the spare tyre if i have a flat. I know its the bit in the dashboard that doesnt work as my vac wont work either when i plug it in. Any one know how easy it is to fix this - prob need new unit ? Its not the fuse - tried that one.
