CIGARETTE LIGHTER FUSE

The fuse for my cigarette lighter keeps on blowing. I must have changed it 6 times in the past year. I dont use the lighter but I do use the socket to plug in sat navs, phone chargers etc.
Any idea what the problem could be?
Many thanks
Seb

I'd have thought it unlikely that, under normal operating circumstances, the current drain of those items was too great for the lightr circuit. So either one of the items you plug in is faulty or there is an intermittent fault in the cigarette lighter or the wiring to it that causes a short circuit. If you're reasonably sure that the items you're plugging are working OK I'd check out the wiring immediately behind the lighter socket and/or see if there is any obvious damage to the socket itself.

Is there any link between the 6 times it's blown? Did anything else happen at the same time?

thanks Anton, I'll try and take a look at the wiring but not sure how to pull the socket out to access it!! How easy is it?
Thanks

I'm afraid I have no idea how to remove it - hopefully one of the other posters can help if the links below don't!

Google comes up with these links

Have you checked that the correct rated fuse was used originally. You may be repeating a previous owners error if you get my drift.

25A (whether right or wrong) should still be well beyond what the various devices (that you were plugging in) are likely to need - it's 300W (at a nominal 12V). Certainly worth checking though.
