Hi lg58
I had this problem on my 3.2. What I found was that when you unscrew, from the front of the dash, the old lighter element you twist of the 2 wires as the back of the lighter. The only way to get to them is to partly remove the heater pipe, centre blower and ducting system from the near side of the car. Obviously making carful, note of where everything goes. Once these items are out of the way you can see the 2 wires you may need to reconnect.
Kind regards Ian

Quite a common problem, it happened to me also on the way back from the Nurburgring. Unfotunatley I removed the old lighter from inside the car by cutting it into small bits before realising the correct procedure of access from behind the blower.

It is accessed through the luggage compatment, by removing the panel in front of the blower motor. I can't remember if I removed the blower or if it was possible to do it without. I did post a note on how to do it so it may be worth a search.

Hi
You have to loosen the main heater blower so that you can push it towards the nearside of the car. The air path flapper box and pipes needs to be removed completely.
The same process is required if you need to get at the HRW and fog light switches.
For reference my car is a pre 1987 model and most of these switches appear to be SC based. So if you need to replace them be careful of supeceded parts. It's always nice to get the correct period looking function logos on the swtich buttons.
Kind regards
