Cigarette lighter socket

No, I haven't taken up a bad habit.... just bought a charger for my mobile phone that plugs into the socket.

Problem is, it doesn't stay in well. Is the 996 12v socket a different size to most other cars ? It looks quite short and with the springy connector at the end of the plug it keeps popping out. Anyone else had this problem and/or know of a better solution than making it a tighter fit using lots of insulating tape?

Have you checked that the fag lighter socket is live with the ignition switched off and the key removed? On most pre-facelift cars it isn't. (Edit: Read properly, Richard. Phone charger, not battery charger).

Can't help with the plug fit, I'm afraid. I find that some plugs fit well, and others don't.

I find the 996 socket to be better than the one in my Golf, but in general it's mostly down to the actual plug (usually of appalling quality!) fitted to the device. Assuming that there is a cable, your best bet is to buy a replacement plug (Maplins do one) & rewire that on.
