Cigarette Lighter

Does anybody know if the cigarette lighter on my 964 Turbo should light up when the lights are on? When you pull the cigarette lighter out, there is a bulb inside the holder that is lit. However, when you push the lighter bit in, it does not light up.... Not sure if if has the wrong pushy in bit or perhaps a fault.

Any ideas???

Thanks

Jeremy

hi
ive cheacked on my 964 turbo and mine doesnt work either i also have another turbo but thats in for a repair but i will cheack when it comes back
i do remember that on my old 964 targa that that one did light up so im sure that the turbo should be the same

Nor mine. I think it was a safety feature so that you didn't light up at night [8D]

BTW the Germans must be posh because they refer to it as a cigar lighter in the manual IIRC

Hi,

I recall a similar discussion on a Yahoo group a while back. No ones works and it is reckoned that Porsche never actually fitted a bulb. They also never did for the light switch either even though it has room for one! [;)]

So its not a fault, and you can worry about something else!! [:D]

Craig

It just plugs into a couple of spade slots behind the dash.

Check the spring clip inside has not detached from the lighter. This happened to mine

I replaced mine with one off ebay and it is and easy 5 min job.

Well it can only be one of 3 possibilities.
1 Your new light is a dud.

2. You are not getting 12v to the lighter, you need a voltmeter to check it and don't forget that the ignition needs to be on.

3. There is no earth from the lighter to the chassis, you'll need an Ohm meter to check between a suitable point on the chassis to the earth point on the lighter.

If you say the previous lighter was badly corroded then I'd perform the checks in reverse order.

Thanks david for your advice.

I have a volt meter somewhere but have no idea how to use it.

would it be possible for you to give me a few simple instructions.

e.g. what setting to use and where to put both leads and what readings am I looking for.

[FONT=verdana, geneva"]Both I and a friend additionally added an extra loose 12v socket from Maplins and have it tucked under the dash for spare accessory/phone charger use. I simply traced back the cabling and spliced this in [FONT=verdana, geneva"][FONT=verdana, geneva"](arguably can use any 12v feed depending if you want ignition on/off). Personally I don't like the look and obtrusion of anything stuffed into the dash mounted socket so only use my discreet new one.
