Cigarette lighter

Hi all

just wondered if anyone has had any problems with theirs.
Mine didn't work and was very corroded, therefore i bought a knew sleeve / lighter.
After plugging it in, it still doesn't work.

Yes i've checked the fuse.

Any suggestions please.

Well it can only be one of 3 possibilities. 1 Your new light is a dud. 2. You are not getting 12v to the lighter, you need a voltmeter to check it and don't forget that the ignition needs to be on. 3. There is no earth from the lighter to the chassis, you'll need an Ohm meter to check between a suitable point on the chassis to the earth point on the lighter. If you say the previous lighter was badly corroded then I'd perform the checks in reverse order. David

Thanks david for your advice. I have a volt meter somewhere but have no idea how to use it. would it be possible for you to give me a few simple instructions. e.g. what setting to use and where to put both leads and what readings am I looking for. regards lee

Both I and a friend additionally added an extra loose 12v socket from Maplins and have it tucked under the dash for spare accessory/phone charger use. I simply traced back the cabling and spliced this in (arguably can use any 12v feed depending if you want ignition on/off). Personally I don't like the look and obtrusion of anything stuffed into the dash mounted socket so only use my discreet new one. Marcus
