The car went to a proper body shop yesterday and for £180 I now have nicely repaired sills that have been fully examined and passed as sound other than the bits that were cout out. This was only the outers as the inners were fine.

So well happy, and the wife is happy which is always good. Car is now ok again for another couple of years :)

They repaired them in just one day and for only £180? I've never heard of any turn around that quick

ORIGINAL: Alpine

are you able to say who did the work?

Quite happy to, it was Spectrum in York. I don't know them to be honest, but they have done 944s before and the body shop manager has a very nice old MG.

Also to be honest it is a cheap job, but this is mitigated by some factors. A previous owner put 968 sill covers on the car, mainly I suspect to cover a number of sins, primarily that the bottoms of the front wings are not good. Therefore you can't see the original sills and so they were able to get away with a bit less "finishing" but they have been nicely patched, cleaned up, undercoated and rust proofed and then lots of wax oil applied.

As long as I go back to it each year then it should be fine. Now clearly this is a patch and bodge job but you can't see it and it keeps the car on the road for a couple of more years. As I have previously said its not Concours or a garage queen so I have no problem with this approach as I get to keep driving a cheap car for quite a while longer.

Now if it ever turns out that the car is worth doing up, then we can re-visit things and do it properly. I have been assured though that it is now quite solid. So big smile all round and wallet hasn't been burnt.

Now I just need to hope that the spares I ordered arrive intime so that I can get it re-MOT'd without having to pay again.

Better to do this than allow the rust to creep up onto the rear wing like I have, which doubles the cost of repair...but at least I will have one more Shiny Red panel[:D]

Just found out that the car is being delivered back to TWG from the Bodyshop today![:D]

Apparently the rust was much worse than they expected and had to have a lot of patching done, I am sooooo looking forward to the Bill
Will post some pics when I get it back

Picked it up last night after having the following done:
Horn fixed and new bulb to get through MoT!
MoT
12k Service
New front disks
Wheel bearing adjusted
Cam cover gasket replaced, which necessitated having the belts done (again!)
New Water Pump (did whilst the belts were off)
Sills and rear wing repaired

total bill: £1614

The sills look great, a really good job, here are some pics (They have stone-chip painted the bottom of the sills):

Of course now having the front bearing done, I can hear one of the rear bearings, just haven't the courage to tell my Wife after receiving the bill for this work....
I just need to polish the non-painted bits now as they look pinker than ever!

Blimey all that work for that money is pretty good.

Going to have to get the sills done on my S at some point as they're fairly crusty.
