Just in case you haven't heard, its classic car day this friday 4th April.

The idea (Chris Evans) is you use your classic for the commute too and from work. Obviously not applicable to the newer watercooled machinery, but a great opportunity for the older cars to have an airing. Refer to Chris Evans radio 2 web page for details.

I don't commute as such, so will probably make up with a ride out into the dales !

I thought that when I heard about it, but you could be having a day off and just going out for a run !

I am hoping to have a different kind of day, hopefully it will be bring your VW home if VW get their fingers out and give me my car back
[]

Might even donate ÂŁ10 to children in need if they do.

Working from home, doh,

Seriously how many cars are insured for going to work, mine aren't.

Most I'd have thought?

Social, domestic and pleasure?

Driving to work is not business use (which has never cost me a bean anyway).

The murky world of insurance and unfathomable premiums lives on in 2014!!

Driving to and from a permanent place of work is an additional "commuting" cover, and is not covered by " social, domestic and pleasure"
But how would they ever know right ?
Unless of course you made a claim for driving your "classic" to work in the rain and fog on a day that doing so had been advertised on national radio.

None of my CLASSIC policies in the last 10 years have included commuting to a place of work let alone business use. These are usually included in a normal everyday policy at no cost.

I believe I may have asked once about it on a classic policy but can't remember the answer and have never added it. I usually cycle or walk back up the stairs so not needed it.

Good point. You have to be increasingly careful with what is and isn't covered these days don't you?

The police are increasingly switched on to it and I have represented a few people now prosecuted for driving without insurance when they had a valid policy for SDP but were allegedly using the vehicle for business.

Not seen many classics about locally today but then it was cold and foggy first thing.

I have to admit that I didn't know this for a long time and had taken mine to work on the odd occasion. There are some odd things in classic insurance, mine have to be kept in the garage at home, but can be left on anyone else's drive.

Classic insurance isn't always cheapest either, the 944 was insured as a daily with 12K miles a year and business use for a lot less than a classic policy. Oddly, now that am with Locktons it is effectively free compared with insuring the two cars separately.

my st70 monkey bike is 40 years old on saturday 5th, which by new law will be tax exempt, going to hartech in bolton for a 968 meet which is my classic trip out, neither of which are insured to commute!

M666 is on a classic policy (don't blame me, Classicline accepted it!) and we've got commuting to and from permanent place of work included [:)]

M&L

My van is insured for commuting. I went to Liverpool in it last week with some big ladders on the roof rack. :))
