classic car insurance for 993?

Hi

due to some backache :) the 993 is now a weekend tool, and a ML 350 Sport is the weekday driver.

Can anyone recommend either a good classic car insurance company or a multi car insurance company, as the quotes I have been getting are ridiculously high. I live in london with no garage (porsche is in an gated apartment car park and will do say 2000 miles)

Thanks

Sanjay

As it's a second car, try Classic Line - I've had my 968 with them for a couple of years, no problem about it living on the driveway instead of in a garage.

I've used Classicline insurance (http://www.classiclineinsurance.co.uk/) for the last few years (previously for my 993, and now for my 997). I was pleasantly surprised with their quote, as I'm sure my demographic would have come up as high-risk (28 year old male with Porsche in central London postcode, no garage) but it was only about 550 GBP for the year with a 3k mileage limit. Track-day cover included. Like you, I don't have an enclosed garage, but it's parked within a gated back garden - so off-street. They were happy with that. I didn't bother shopping around (I figured it wasn't going to get much lower), but if you find anyone else with competitive pricing, please share.

Also, it's worth noting that your car doesn't have to be a classic for classicline insurance to listen to you. When I changed to a 997 earlier this year, they were happy to insure it and the premium only increased by about 80 GBP (with car new value insured for about 50% more than the 993) - although maybe having turned 30 it was less than it could have been. With the current farce of escalating premiums it's hard to know what really drives the costs...

thanks for the replies so far

classicline refused to quote as apparently I live in the second highest rated area for theft (59 out of 60! blimey who thought shoreditch was so bad :) and also I had a recent claim

however manning have given me an amazing quote £630 including track day cover....never been on one....sounds like fun

spoke to a guy called gyles....amazingly helpful.....what customer service should be all about

Best wishes

I had great service from Lancaster, after contacting most of the usual suspects, they have been very competitive, good one to try is Carol Nash & Adrian Flux were competitive, I must stress though make sure you are getting like for like quotes.

+1 for Gyles at Manning - very helpful to me too (although lack of modern stuff like computers (not quite!) does cause some need for corrections sometimes - he "built" a garage for me at last renewal!)

Have just done the annual quote/search for better deals on insurance and ClassicLine has definitely [:D] come up trumps, saving me nearly (get this) £350 on my exorbitant renewal figure from Adrian Flux, who were looking for a whopping £300 more than last year![:-] - sorry no justification for that, even with the insurance blaggers around, pushing up the premiums.

Oh yes, and the compulsory excess compared to Adrian Flux was £200 better too. What else can I say?

Found that Lancaster are next to useless, unless you want to just keep your car in the garage all the time (oh dear, maybe some of you do!), i.e. 3k annual - any more and no agreed value beyond that mileage[8|][8|]. Others Heritage, Manning etc, will not give you any agreed value on an annual mileage of over 5k.[&o]

Yes , I think you will find that most 993's these days are garage queens, and I found that classic were not in the same league, let alone ball park as Lancaster or even Adrian Flux, Carol Nash, but as I said before make sure you are comparing eggs with eggs.

I switched this year to Lancasters from Adrina Flux (whose premium had increased by £100) and ended up paying £100 less than last year (i.e. £200 less than AF this year), agreed value, £150 XS, 5000 miles, full Euro breakdown, and legal cover, so it certainly seems to vary a lot.

I've been with Hagerty for the past few years - They will only insure if it's a second car but that fits with the OP.

Knowledgeable and courteous as well as the best price.

Yes I agree they are nice people, I was with them for several years , sadly they just were not competitive this year, and could only offer 3k miles on my classic policy now.

I have had cars insured for many years with Lancaster. However, these have been older cars and they have always been untouchable
for quotes on these cars. I did ring to get a quote for my 993S 1997 but they were miles off the mark[:-]

I think most members 'club' 993's are at least holding price and in some case are heading north - my fear is something happens and I wish to claim
and will only get market value (whatever that means?)

What I am looking for is a Agreed valuation insurance for my 993 S - anyone got one and with who?

my policy with Lancaster is an agreed value policy, and all the policies I have had with all the companys since I have had my car have been agreed value/restricted milage

Sue
Is you agreed insurance for a 993?

I have 356 and Supersport with agreed valuations and with Lancaster but they would not do my 993!

my car is a '96 993 cab, lefthooker, garaged, 3000miles, agreed value policy, and as I said before all the insurance I have bought for the last 7 years have been agreed value

Thanks Sue

Strange since I have had my 356 on agreed with Lancasters for 10 plus years - I asked about my 993 and they said not old enough! at 1997[8|]

yes that is the story I had from Hagerty, they told me that they are concentrating on the older cars now, and that was the reason that they could not remain competetive on the 993, and that they had to reduce the maximum milage. I had been with them at least 3 years

The other interesting point was that Hagerty and Lancaster were using the same insurance company to underwrite the policy ? bizzare , that was one of the reasons I went with Lancaster, I was very happy to retain the same level of cover, although AF, and Carol Nash were marginally cheaper. Would have had to pick over the terms and add extra cover to retain the degree of cover enjoyed before, I would probably have ended up paying a higher premium with both, although they also offered agreed value policies

John! As I was trying to say in my post, the AGREED VALUE was essential [;)] to me (even with a car of my more considerable mileage, compared with all of yours). Try ClassicLine.

Should the worst happen[:'(], this can make the difference, for instance, between an Agreed Value of around £22k and a so-called market value (which they will try and get as low as possible!) of around £16k, believe it or not!

And, of course, your S is worth around £8-10k more than a "˜narrow body', anyway.
