Classic car show

Would have gone but I'm on holiday at the same time, think I will be off to the one in the Autumn. Take a look at my friends stand "MB Engineering and Vapour Blasting", they usually have a couple of prepared rally cars on display.

The last meetings I went to that had any 944's there, were those Rutland meets. And I was practically invisible to most of the old fogies attending , because I wasn't part of the clique that had attended the dyno and track days, or hadn't been a member of some mailing list from decades ago.

It’s very different now - Mike does a fantastic job of arranging the physical Transaxle meets and is as anti-clique as it’s possible to be! He’ll probably be helping out at the Classic Car Show but he’s not much of a caravan enthusiast, sorry Ken :ROFLMAO:

I never found it like that to be honest. I did used to be a member of the titanic mailing list and went to a couple of the rolling road days at Silverstone. I was probably the youngest guy there. Became the talking point when the turbo burst a coolant hose after the dyno run.

Looking forward to some of the transaxle events this year, just need to find time to finish the car! (otherwise, I might have to turn up in something with a flat-6).

Well I definitely wasn't in the circle of trust. I tried striking up a conversation with 2 or 3 owners of cars I recognised from the forum, and it was like pulling teeth. I was glad it was only 30 minutes from home, and the last time I was on my way before the parking charge kicked in.

Really like your wheels, what are they?
I loved the meets, its always odd when you turn up to a meet like that in person, you could walk past someone you have chatted to and you wouldnt know it,i always thought a paper sticker badge would have helped, hope to pop along to something. Is Rutland ever a thing now or is it somewhere else these days?

Wheels are Gemballa Lemans, 18x10 and 18x8. I remember speaking to the guy that had a silver turbo S and a Noble, Graham I think. What hard work that was.

Thats it, think i have asked that before (age),i remember the Gemballa adverts on the back of 911 Porsche world back in the 90s!

There is very little clearance between the front wheel and a MO30 caliper, they never rubbed though. Uwe Gemballa came to a sticky end in S Africa apparently.

What happened to him?Was he involved in something!! Wasnt he big in Miami ,or did i dream that!?

Well good show hardly any 944s this was the only one
Apart from the Turbo and maybe the S2, I can see 944's fading away in the future. If prospective buyers do some research, it doesn't take long to find out they can cost more to restore than they are worth.

Possibly applies to anything classic now unless the rebuild is DIY.

I thought the show was good (went Sat) but all done for me by 1.00pm, so just 3.5 hours and on my way home.

I went on the Friday with my wife. We had a brilliant time and spent about 5 hours there.

Thankfully the battery on my mobility scooter just about made it from the Genting hotel and back as I had left the charger at home!
