Classic Insurance?

ORIGINAL: phantom
Do any 944's clarify for cheap classic insurance?

All of them [:D]

I had my last 944 insured on a classic policy - no NCB required (had to be a second car), agreed value was optional, limited mileage, low excess if you don't exceed the mileage, mods allowed, no commuting or business use though.

I found the mileage limit was a real problem for me in practice, not because I did more miles (7500 mile per year policy, did just under 7000 that year) but because every time I took the car out I was counting of the number of miles I did. I did show the car & it was fun in a slightly geeky kind of way but I bought the car primarily to drive it, not polish it so I moved to a performance car policy (higher excess, slightly higher premium, no mileage limit or agreed value, no problem with trackdays although I have to pay extra each time) and feel much more comfortable taking the car out whenever & wherever I want. I did over 15,000 miles in my 944 last year, not a single one of which was essential travel [8D]

That 944 was behind me yesterday, looked tidy in my rear view mirror. Other then that I have no idea about it.

I'd avoid a LHD cab in the UK. With the roof up there is a massive blind spot just where you need to see to pull onto a roundabout for example.

What benefit does 'classic' insurance give you? Mines just insured on a normal policy with Sainsbury's - £380, no mileage limit. Is classic much cheaper than that? Or is it down to an agreed value sort of thing?

When does a car actually clarify for Classic Ins?

You can put any PLG car on a classic policy, it just might not be the cheapest way to go. I laid out the main benefits above, the biggest factor is probably no NCB required (there needs to be another car in the household though), but you don't earn any either.

Don't get hung up on whether something qualifies for anything or not, just work out what you want from a policy & find the best value policy that meets your criteria.

Personally I want a policy that is trackday friendly (some insurers won't insure you for the road if you use it on the track), allows unlimited mileage & commuting & doesn't insist that the car is garaged overnight etc. I also have NCB I can apply to the policy which helps.

What do you want from the policy? What restrictions are you prepared to accept? If you don't know your options speak to a broker or agent to try to glean an opinion on what would be best for you.

I personally wouldnt go for a lhd model,I dont see as you save that much and also once the novelty wears off I would imagine it wouldnt be so great[8|]
