Classic Insurance

[link=http://www.rhclassicinsurance.co.uk/]http://www.rhclassicinsurance.co.uk/[/link] These guys charge me £179 in the garage - add £50 for the drive

I have a friend (yes really a friend) who is in the process of purchasing a 1990 964 carrera 2. Well at least he got the badge right if not the model. It's a start!! He is looking to run it on classic insurance so I said I'd give you guys a shout to see if you knew any good companies to use? Thanks in advance guys.

TBH, its worth calling around all the big classic car insurance company's as while one company will be the cheapest for 1 person it may not be for another, it really depends on your circumstances. A google search will produce many, I'm with Classic Line as they will insure my car as an only car on a classic policy unlimited mileage, others wont even touch me. Didnt know they covered the ring too, cool[:D] is that with all their policy's? Edd

......only mine [;)] the underwriter is brit insurance - I had several conversations with classic line who confirmed I was covered for TF days. They also cover me for the occasional business trips I make in the car.

I use ClassicLine for my 911 as they include club track days. Used to use RHClassic Insurance before that but they don't do track days full stop. I think Classicline was about £30 cheaper. I use my 944 everyday and none of the classic guys were remotely competative all around £600 so I went with Aviva for £240. You really do have to ring around though as there is a big difference between them all.

AON (Footman James) 2 Turbos one modded and declared, agreed value fully comp, 5k pa mileage, european cover...........£180 the pair no track cover though.

Mark is your mileage unlimited? If not then I must try Aviva. Ian

The mileage is up to 12,000 pa kept on the drive, no alarm requirements, business for me and wife, bit steep on the excess but on a car that cost me less than £2k who cares. Also for this reason I am not interested in track day insurance on this car as the excess is geneally £1500 to start with. Direct line also had a good quote for similar terms, but want a Thatcham approved alarm fitted and I couldn't see the point in car with such a low value. It already has an alarm but its old and so has not Thatcham approval.

Heritage for my car...a random choice initially but they treated me well when the first one was written off (not my fault) and the premium is a reasonable £281 including recovery, legal etc. Whoever your friend uses I'd recommend an "agreed value" policy if possible...the older cars are costly to repair relative to their market value, aren't they?!

Mar, 12k a year sounds good - I'd probably do just under that. did they ask for an immobiliser? - I'd like to rip mine out - it's one of those touch ones which drives me up the wall, I just want to turn the key and go rather than faffing around. What's the excess if you can recall?

You may want to check out the cash back sites (topcashback.co.uk) before you get a quote - some are offering up to £100 back on insurance bought through clicking on their links to big name insurers - it may or may not suit you but it's worth a punt. For example the above offer £70 cash back on Aviva...

Well, I used AON for my modded 944T and have stayed with them for the 964. £238pa with 5000 miles pa, agreed value and 5 trackdays covered per year.

They have no alarm or immobiliser requiement on this car! Quite amazing realy and they don't mind about some mods. Wish I had known about the cash back though.
