Classic Le Mans

Hi,
We (Eve and I) haven't been along to any of the region meets at Holywell yet as we only got our Boxster in Nov and so far the dates have clashed with other things, so haven't met any of you.
We have had an invite from OPC Cambridge to join the drive to Classic Le Mans this July, and are very tempted to go, are any of you from Cambs going with a OPC or joining the club drive?

Hi David

We are going to the classic again this year, but sadly not with Cambs OPC. It sounds like Gary Sorrell & co have a good package prepared, including additional time in the Loire Valley, but as I'm also doing the main Le Mans race in June, adding the OPC cost was going well over my budget (£600+ each ?). We are doing the classic with Callander classics (£300 - £400 each), as we did 2 years ago. Tony Flint at Callander does a great package too, and as I take my wife to the classic, she enjoys the stay in a chateaux, and the evening events are superb. We (my son and I ) will be doing the main Le Mans race with the porsche club this year. I've been going for 15 years now, but this will be the first with the club, and I'm looking forward to it. My wife doesn't come to the main event, because as she says 'one doesn't do camping', like its somehow dirty! The classic is great, you can get closer to the cars, and there are less crowds and it has more civility and real race car enthusiasts, so just get there, however you do it.

Hope to meet you at the club meet some time, although please note the next one is not to be at Holywell, as it has been decided to try a new venue in Brampton.

David you will find an application form for the Le Mans Classic in the next edition of Porsche Post. You should book using this form only if you are going there in your Porsche. The Porsche only parking area is right alongside the pre grid line up and you will be able to sit inside the Porsche marquee, or walk about the cars on the pre grid, and see the cars and drivers close up.
There is no official accommodation package for this event you will have to arrange your own accommodation.

Robin, Mike.
Thanks for the info, I think we'll give it a go with OPC this time and blow the expense as we've not had a hol in a couple of years. My brother in law does the modern 24hr with the Aston Club (don't expect they "do camping" either), so I my join in with him in 07.
I'll look out for the info re the next meeting at Brampton and perhaps meet you there.

Hi david, last year me and my dad went to the le mans 24hr with porsche centre cambridge and it was absolutly brill. gary sorrell realy puts a good package together.Everything from the the acomidation, the food, the different activities to race day itself, realy was 5 star. We have already paid for our trip to the classic this year as we were so impressed with last years trip. Its not cheap, but what is put on for you makes you realise what value for money it is. Trust me its well worth doing. [;)]
