Classic Radio Retro fit

Hello folks,
I am interested in fitting a replacement radio in my 993. I know a few years ago Porsche introduced their classic units with small navigation screen. I’d be interested to learn user feedback? (The screen is small and with the accuracy of mobile phone mapping why not just use the bigger screen in my iPhone)

Thinking about the latter point what alternative head units are worth considering that offer DAB Radio, CD, and Blue tooth connectivity whilst complimenting the classic interior.

Thanks
RMT

Hi Robert
Good question.
I reckoned the Porsche kit was expensive and the screen was not just too small…but in the wrong place to allow sat nav to be used.
I researched this and bought a brand new Blaupunct Bremen radio .
It is a beautiful piece of kit designed to replace the kit that was originally installed.
It uses the original paper based speakers fitted to my car. It looks as though it was fitted in 1995.
It links to my i-phone via bluetooth.
I bought a Renline magnetic phone holder which attaches via a circular clamp to the outside of the bezel on the clock or oil gauge. It does not do CDs. It picks up spotify from my phone.
If I want sat nav…I use Google maps…and I can easily see the phone.
Much lower cost than the Porsche kit. Google it ..Blaupunct Bremen…and have a look.
If you send me your e-mail address …or phone number for WhatsApp…I will send you some pics

I second the Bremen & rennline phone mount. Mounts around £100 but so sturdy I feel it was worth every penny. Bremens buttons can feel a little fiddly, but from a cost point these two applications are all you’re gonna need vs the Porsche classic unit.

I fitted the new classic PCM unit in my Cayenne E1… it’s superb ..
The 993 one has a very small screen so my thinking was ,use a retro Blaupunkt for phone and music… and get a screen mounted phone holder for Nav…

Thanks. Exactly what I was thinking. I have a list of blaupunkt models saved in my eBay acct to check out the differences between Bremen, Frankfurt & Stockholm. All nice places to visit also!!!
