Nice one Gerry, I am sure we will belong to a few of them to support you Good luck to you and Tom for the season

The CSCC race meetings should be a real "porschefest" this year. Not only are there numerous "front fours" out of the 27 or so regular Porsche racing members racing in Future Classics and Modern Classics (inc my own 924S in the latter) but CSCC is hosting the Dunlop Production Porsche series this year as well. THE DPP series will have 2 x 20 min races on one of the days of each meeting.

Andy, I think we will be waving to each other as we cross, most of your meetings are the day after us. Maybe I should get the 993 fitted out with a cage? Gerry

I'll tell you something, it lifts my spirit talking about racing, on these dull grey January days. Roll on April that's what I say. Gerry

Id love to come to Oulton and maybe Donnington too, but only if youre going to do more than one lap... [:D]

I did do more than one........ In qualifying, unfortunately I didn't get even one in the ...ahem race? Still the bloke in the 928 was ok.

I am quite excited about it all to be honest. The new Dunlop Porsche Cup is what I have been looking for, for the past 3 years. I have lost 10 lb in weight and have been exercising on and off since the late summer, need to get a few things sorted/prepped on my car, then for the first time ever I will actually get out on track before turning up at my first meeting.

If its your first outing I'm happy to stay over and help you through and offer moral support if you think that would help. I remember my first race all those years ago, at Donnington in my Caterham. I wanted to ensure a trouble free run so duly qualified on the back. (a couple of seconds behind the next guy) Waited until the lights went out before I even selected first gear. They'd all gone round Redgate before I got past the pit lane exit. I then had a great 20 laps finally dragging a couple of slower cars in and demonstrated my skills getting past them. I in turn got overtaken by the quick cars, No problem. It was a double header the grid position for the second race was set from your finishing position from the first. OK I thought I'll have two cars behind me on a grid of 32, WRONG! About 12 quicker cars had retired, either via the gravel trap or into the pits, I was gridded up on the 10th row, with about 7 rows behind me! I knew I had to go 4 it straight off the line or get potentially rammed up the back. I was ready sat in first with the rev counter on 4000, the lights went out I side-stepped the clutch and rocketed off the line in the middle of 32 Caterhams flying down towards Redgate. What I didn't know was there had been an oil spillage in the previous race and they had cement dusted the track, there was complete white-out, but i daren't lift. We went through Redgate wheel to wheel in cloud of white dust like a swarm of angry bees. It was the (second) most exhilarating moment in my life, I finished 17th and I was hooked. You'll never be the same again Neil.

Not that long ago but yes I don't need no noobie cross. [:D]. On one level I have been racing since 2010 but in reality I have only really played at it. What I was talking about is daft things like my experience at Brands the past 2 years. On both occasions it was the first time I had driven the car that year/season and you end up sharing track space with cars and drivers already fully prepped to attack the season, some having done maybe half dozen or more track/test days and worked on setup, getting themselves keyed into it all again etc. etc. Then you go out and find not only is your driving well off but the car is not right and everything goes down hill from there because you can see how big the gap is but are always playing catch up to nowhere. 3 or 4 races in and the season is pretty much lost so you start to ask yourself if its worthwhile bothering with the rest of the season. I promised myself last year I am not making those mistakes again. If I can't afford to do it properly this year then I will sell up and either race Pumas with the Eacock lads or not race at all.

Hey Gerry, Have you sorted the camber and tracking out yet ;) BTW Matt's thumbnail has almost finished growing back, makes me cringe thinking about it. We'll be doing most of the season, although we won't be ready in time for Snett due to a number of delays with one or two updates we're working on. Hopefully we'll see you at Silverstone!

I haven't bothered with a professional set-up. I think it's about right 2-3 degrees This picture was taken at shell (i think), and I think you can see the camber is roughly right?

I just set the front camber to max on my KW's and it was pretty much bang on 3 deg neg both sides when I had the toe checked

I have a camber gauge, so that's probably ok. I can't measure the tracking except by eye, I sued to "String" the Caterham but it's not so easy with a 944. But as you say it feels right. It's not as quick as your beast Anthony, but there again I'm moving more metal around. :) We will be looking at some GRP bits over this season.

I picked up one of the 'trackace' gauges for about £70, I haven't used it yet but it seems ideal as a neat, quick and low cost way of getting pretty accurate readings, good enough at least. The 'beast' seems to be a reasonable weight at 1049kg but I'm running full glass, so it's only the front end that's GRP but that along with having the suspension setup, correct corner weighting, camber and tracking etc makes a big difference. Power-wise I'm down quite a bit with the 2.7 engine but that's one of the upgrades for this season so it'll be interesting to see how much of a difference a 3.0L engine makes.
