Cleaning the Roof

Hi All,

Just a quickie. My wife says i'm a bit anal when it comes to cleaning my Boxster. To be fair i think nothing of spending 4 to 5 hours on her before taking her out for a blast.

She normally gets Zymol or Dodo Juice products but I am having a problem.

What is the hood made of? and what do you guys use to clean it with.

Thanks in advance

Dave

I normally just give it a spray with a hose.

To remove loose dry stuff you can use a sticky roller.

You can wash it with a very mild shampoo solution, but the proofing will be removed.
The proofing doesn't actually do anything apart from make the water bead up on the roof though [:D] so no real problem... (The roof is made from 100% Acrylic outer, a butly or neoprene waterproof layer, and then a cotton liner).

If you want to re-proof then 3M scotchguard heavy duty seems to get the best reviews. You can get this in B&Q

Autoglym make a product specifically designed to clean & then waterproof the hood. Costs about £20 but I reckon I've used mine about 4 times so far, and can probably get 1 more clean from what's remaining, so good value. Comes with an applicator as well. Bought mine from Halfords.

I use Porsche's own car shampoo about once a year which can be used on the roof. At all other times I just use fresh water.

Autoglym Cabriolet Fabric Hood Cleaning kit. £19.99 In Halfords .. 2 Containers both with spray dispensers, plus sponge type applicator/aggitator. The labels on the containers (one cleaner the other the waterproofer) are a light purple colour. Works really well and you should get 5 to 6 applications.
