i have put a set of clear rear indicator lenses on my car, thanks to FEN for his help in getting them in the first place[:D] Very heppy with outcome, although i had to smash out the original ones which was a little hairy as its an all or nothing kind of deal.

Just before X-mas FEN of the 944 forum set up a group buy from turnclear.com . And so a group of us purchased front and rear lenses. Other the that i really havent seen rear clear lenses for sale anywhere else.

Steve,
If you look HERE there is a thread & some pictures re the clear lenses Fen got as a group buy, if you are going ahead with your purchase let me know as I want some too.

Marc,

I'm not sure if it is down to the photo but, if I was being super crittical (something my wife confirms is a common occurance [&o]) I think I would paint out the borders of the new lenses black to match the perimeter frames of the other lenses.

Just a thought - Tell me to shut up and mind my own business.

I understand what you mean John - that's why I haven't yet fitted mine, I'm trying to find a clear-setting glue that's strong enough for the job; want everything to blend in.

Good point, but it doent stick out like a sore thumb in the light of day, but i might cut some strips and place over to get an opion of what it would look like before i commit to colouring the edges permently. I have noticed that there is a differnce between 944 and 924 rear lights i dont seam to have the large black sepates crossing the rear lights ? in fact its only around the edge for my lights really.

PS i have seen some clear two pack Araldite which would do the job, i used jbl weld which has a grey tint to it [], and im guessing this is what you can see, although it has welded them in place, there not moving and are watertight. And i think they do look better so im happy for now still havent got to the bottom of the wish list yet though[:)]

Coincidentally I have the "Wheeler Dealers" 924 episode on TV just now and there's a good shot of the back light. It's exactly the same as my 944 ones; there's a horizontal black bar between the top and bottom lenses but no vertical black separators.

I think the secret is to use adhesive that dries absolutely transparent as then the lens should look just like the reversing one next to it.

Having recently had some "issues" with some bonded acrylic I supplied to a client perhaps I can be of some assistance.

The only way you will get a completely clear bonded joint is if both faces are clean and touch all the way round. You then inject a clear solvent adhesive into the joint and capillary atraction draws the adhesive along the joint without introducing air bubles. Noting the position of the rear lens, and the method of removing the original, I would anticipate that a clean joint touching all the way around is going to be next to impossible.

The other option is use clear silicone and leave it taped up for 24 hours or so, so that it can dry. Heat degradation shouldn't be an issue as the indicators aren't on that much. Any overspill should be cut off with a very very sharp blade once set as, if you try to pull it or roll it off, you may well pull the sealant out of the joint. The lense may still fall off of course. I have noticed a differnce between some 944s and 924s rear lights mine just dont have the large black edging they do darken alittle as they come to a join but this is i guess to old age rather than anything else.

hmmm, maybe I need to find some black glue [:D]

might risk it with the silicone [8|]

Your car looks almost Glacier blue in that pic. And aren't those lenses clear - you can see right through them!

I think Dan has Chameleon paint. His car looked Gold on the M1 at night

Yes it has a knack of changing colour in different lighting. The colour stated on my MoTs is split roughly 50-50 between Silver and Gold! Strangely my 924 does exactly the same thing (Grey-Silver-Blue). A better physicist than I would probably be able to tell us why, but do I really care? [8|] [:D]

BTW, do you like my new black numberplate, colour-coded to match the trim? Pretty handy with speed cameras too.
