Clear coat

Bit of a daft question this, but i recently bought an Alpine white '89 944 S2 and i cant figure out if it has a clear coat or not. Im assuming it does but i'd rather know for sure. Anyone know for sure?

Alex,
Alpine white was a single stage paint from the factory ( no clear coat ). The only colours that had clear were the metallic varities. Unless your car was repainted somewhere in its history you can assume its NOT clearcoated.
 
Easy way to determine on pretty much any car. If you polish with a rag and get colour on the rag then the car has no clearcoat.
 
problem with that is the car is white and the polish is white, so i can never tell if its just polish residue or the paint coming away
