Clear indicators/repeaters

Evening all,

What are everyones thoughts on the clear front indicators/side repeaters combo? Whilst I dont have a particular problem with the orange Im thinking of changing just to see if it looks slightly more discreet.

Its a titanium 944 and on a red 44 i think the indicators look fine, hoever, they do seem to draw attention to themselves on the titanium? shown in pic. Whats everyones thoughts on this. is it a bit 'max power'.. which incidentally is not the look im going for.

on a side note, my car is previously registered to Nick Mason Music which im informed is the very same legend from Pink Floyd. I was keen to try and contact him to verify this. Is there a best practise for contacting previous owners? would be quite nice to get some kind of letter from him as confirmation (wishful thinking).. Was thinking of emailing Octane as he writes a very interesting column in there each month, and ask em to pass the letter on..

Cheers,
Charlie

I'm with Jack and Scott on this one. Some might say clear indicators can detract from the 'classic' design of the 944, but (and especially on black/grey/white cars) in my opinion they enhance it suffuciently without looking at all 'helfrauds...'

I recently put clear indicators on my white S2 and they look SO MUCH BETTER. i couldn't recommend them enough. I've got some pictures of when i put them on, i think the best way to describe it is "cleaner" or "tidyer"

Hope that helps!
I got mine off ebay (i think...) and they came with some sort of gasket i wasn't sure what to do with, it didn't fit where it looked like it should, anyone else changed theirs over?

Worth every penny, one of the first things I bought when I got the turbo. Think I paid about ÂŁ26 from eBay, came with the seals and silver bulbs that flash amber.

Looking at it I certianly agree they look very good and 'correct' on the white.. so im guessing they will look equally at home on the silver missile..

Ill post some pics up this weekend in a similar before during and after manner for you all to see.. will get em off ebay, and i will do the side repeaters at the same time.. i think they are about 12 quid,

Anybody planning on tracking in the near-ish future..I have got the i-wants and as a first timer would be good if there was a bit of a crowd with a common interest..

Cheers guys,

Charlie

I prefer the clear look too, especially on a lighter coloured car.

As the Registered keepr you can write to the DVLA for information on the previous keepers (may be slightly out of date on a 15 year old car). Good idea about trying to contact the 'celebrity' owner, makes for a great story.

We normally do a few trackdays every year as a group, but nothing organised as yet. We generally attend one or two of the Silverstone evenings in the summer organised by www.goldtrack.co.uk

Agreed - put clears on my Zermatt Silver machine was very pleased with the appearance. Would look great on yours too.

Track Days sound awesome. I will certainly be attending a couple this year.

On the subject of Nick Mason. It certainly was in his ownership. got all excited and went through the history with a toothcomb.. the car was registered at Britannia Row to Nick Mason Music, in Islington..

A quick google search shows that Nick Mason Music is a few roads away from there now, but in Islington... However a further search for Britannia Row which I have on a few invoices, one from Merlyn Porsche approved assist with a warranty with a purchase price of 23k in 93 to Mr N Mason, Britannia Row, islington.. Too much to be a coincidence..

Britannia Row is Pink Flloyds old Studio that they built after wish you were here in 77. Nick Mason has since sold the studio in late 90's and it is now business units..

Now i have confirmed it was definately him it appears he did nearly 25 thousand in the car.. owning it from 93-00, he had a personalised plate of AN 8 on it from 95-00 when she reverted back to NLP so im assuming that is when it was sold by him.. Not bad for what was probably his daily hack..hehe

I have emailed the editor at Octane and will let you all know the response..

Quite cheekily I asked for the editor to run a piece on the 944.. as i "noticed" they had yet to run one. and have covered most other classic porkers ;-)

Regards,

Charlie

Charlie, your car is my fave 944 colour, and my opinion of the clear lenses is leave 'em to the Saxo's.
Others will think otherwise - which is why furry dice have been such a popular accessory but i have never been tempted[:D]

Cheers George,

I actually am a bit of a sucker for the guards myself with black leather and telephone dial deep dish rims a la 86 turbo [8D]. But I think the titanium is my second favourite..[;)] with 3rd being the minty blue (not sure of real colour name) lux of my dads with cookie cutters I eat the back seats of when I was about 5..haha

I am with you on the SaxPower front, but there is no escaping the fact (and judging by the photos (xenons titanium specifiaclly)) that put simply the clear do actually look far better than the standard items. And if anything look as if they should have been standard in the first place..

We shall see...

Cheers

Another picture of mine with better lighting.

I understand the point about "Saxos" and I wouldn't dream of neon washer jets and stupid exhausts, but I think the clear lenses match up well with the fog / auxillary lights. I was also tempted to get some cup wheels and a Momo steering wheel but decided that the D90s and the 'lozenge' wheel are more in keeping...

I'm glad I'm not the only one to buck the trend but i've never seen the attraction of clear lenses and orange bulbs. IMHO, plain coloured cars such as white, grey, silver etc look better for the splash of colour that the orange indicator lenses provide.

BTW, if any of you guys have unwanted, but in good nick S2/ turbo orange lenses/ side repeaters they'd like to be rid of, i'll gladly take them off your hands!

Charlie. I have a feeling you may well discover the car was in fact used by Nick's wife.
Her name is Annette. AN 8 .............

I have their address if you email me.

It's not really the sort of thing the Lax Power brigade would do they seem more into Lexus style lights and Audi style LED front lights nowadays.

I think the clear lights look quite nice and I'm going to do the same to my car I think.
