Clearing radiators

Just had the 4 year service on my '03 Boxster, OPC tell me the radiators require leaves etc clearing away from them and this requires the front bumber being removed. Is there a simpler DIY solution to this problem?

That OPC has a bloody cheek. I'm sure it's not beyond them to find a piece of bendy hose that can fit into the nozzle of a vacuum cleaner. I did mine recently using the cardboard insert from a roll of tinfoil and a standard vacumn cleaner, worked a treat..

ive had new rads and condensors fitted, you can see in the pics where the rubbish sits by the damp marks in the pics in the corners
these pics are with the new rads fitted

i managed to hoover mine out with my dyson through the vent to get the rubbish out, then hosed the rest of the muck to make it clean and remove the road debris, stones etc

A bit frustrating for the OPC to say this and for it not to be an item on the 4 year/48k service for example, if needed. IMHO it is a design flaw, there should be an access to the bottom of the rads which can be opened to allow the crap to drop out and a flush of the area. Is the 987 any better?

The 997 certainly isn't.[:(]
I thought them clearing leaves was part of the service schedule, obviously not []

I have just been out and checked my 987. I couldn't see too many leaves but decided to give them a clean anyway. Used the vacume with the hose and long detailing fitment. I was amazed how well this worked and even more surprised how many leaves I got out from the far corners.

I guess I have just saved myself a £100. :)

The cooling system is covered by the extended warranty. If clearing leaves is not part of the service schedule and not covered by recommended maintenance in the car's manual, failure of the rads due to an accumulation of stuff must be a warranty claim. If there is no official advise or schedule to prevent a failure, a failure must be exceptional.

Still a stunning design flaw though. You'd think all that desert testing would reveal that - especially if it then rains and the dust potentially turns to cement in the matrix.

Thanks for the suggestions, had thought of the vacuum idea but am concerned about any gunge between the AC condenser and the radiator so will probably go the bumper removal route when I get time.

Incidently I have been quoted £198.00 plus VAT by my OPC for carrying out the work.

As the work was recommended to be done at the service I am concerned that if it is not done and there is any corroding of the radiators this will give Porsche an excuse to avoid meeting the costs under their used vehicle warranty.

As a further thought does anyone know if this is part of the 111 point check to be carried out before the issue of a Porsche used vehicle warranty.
