Click click click, car won't start

Hello fellow turbo-ists,

my 996TT had a new battery installed 11 months ago and it is the recommended size and shape; I know this because it was installed as part of delivery and it had to meet the Porsche 111 point inspection and warranty. Drove the car 70 odd miles yesterday. This morning the car won't start, the symptom being click click click when turning the ignition key. I have now got the battery on charge..in the rain, with a plastic bag covering the extension lead....If the battery is knackered, presumably Porsche will give me a new one for free under warranty....won't they? Or if the battery is not knackered I could call porsche assiatcne for help....daft questions I know but I have never used this service.

Any advice welcome.

Just FYI - it's the altenator or the fan belt as after charge and start up, the battery voltage seemed to be low (as read on the dash). A few rev's later and a squeal and the voltage shot up to close to 14.... told Porsche assistance all about this and they're sending someone tomorrow to have a look..

Porsche assistancd just arrived (well, it was RAC) and they diagnosed diodes in the alternator at fault meaning battery drains to earth....? Recovery vehicle on the way to take it to Porsche Reading.....seems there may be a question yet as to whether they deliver it back or I have to collect......

Just so you don't you've been hard done too... the RAC do run the Porsche Assist Scheme [:)]

Car's in with Porsche now.....new alternator will be needed and a new battery...?! Battery is a puzzle because the dealer I bought it from put in a 'new' one before delivery. Turns out (following Porsche's investigation) that it wasn't new after all...it was second hand one. I suspect they took it out of another car to get the car through the warranty checks......I feel cheated! And I doubt I have any comeback for the £250 plus bill I am going to get.

As usual there is one that gives all a bad name, although some may see a reference to the odd OPC here....
