Clicking Fuse Box Concerns

I have recently purchased my 944 S2 Cabriolet and have also noticed a relay frantically clicking away when I get in.[&:]
The clicking was clearly a relay type noise from above the glovebox - where all the relays are located.
I noticed that I could get it to click on demand if I moved around in my seat, so my first suspicion was seatbelt warning detection.
But, then, I realised I could get it to click on demand if I moved my hands and arms rather mystically around the cabin. So, my final conclusion is the ultrasonics. Try the same. Your neighbors will think you are practicing Yoga in your car though.
My S2 has the factory fit ultrasonic detectors mounted in both the left hand and right hand dash corners. So, if you are talking about late 944's with ultrasonics "" it could be that.
Is it a fault? "" I don't think so. If anything, it proves the sensors/relay are operational.
Are the door switch electrics easy to get at - do I just remove the plunger type switch near the door hinges and clean all the connections - sorry about the amatuer question but I am not very good with car electrics - I usually manage to break, fuse or burn something out.[]
Cheers

Its a cute feature which is quite handy when your getting out of the car and realise the windows are still open and so saves you from having to put the keys back into the ignition.
So you should hear a click when you open the door and another when you are closing it... this is the relay making contact and then breaking the contact again.
The door contacts work by grounding out wires from the interior light and from the relay.
If the door contacts are bad, the grounding of that relay will not be complete, and so not enough electrical energy will be able to make its way through the relay coil and then to ground, so, what will hapen is that the coil will start to pull the contacts, and before full contact is made, will be defeated by the spring, so the contacts will sit there vibrating or bouncing which will cause a buzzing, clicking or doing both when the door is open.
The pre 86 cars have another problem, which is that on the right hand drive models, the fuse box is under the battery tray, which often has leaky seams due to acid leaks etc... this causes some moisture to drip into the fusebox, corroding its internal laminated tracks, which again cause all kinds of electrical gremlins.

The 944 has a relay which switches when you open the door. This relay is so that power is fed to the electric windows when the door is open, even if the ignition is switched off.

Thanks Jon ! I never realised this and have always turned the ignition back on to close my windows
