Clicking noise from the back? Hatch / struts?

Hi all

Happy 2016!

Quick question please - I've noticed recently a "clicking" noise from the back of my Lux when driving, especially when going over bumps. I assumed this was the hatch needing a bit of ajustment, but on giving it a poke when closed, it barely moves. (It is a bit hard to open though).

However, I did notice that if I push down on the left hand side rear of the car (over the wheel arch) I can make something in the suspension click / clunk. Not sure if this is the noise I hear when driving (I still think it might be hatch related, it sounds it) but I'm assuming my suspension shouldn't do this, and I should be wary? I will try and whip the wheel off as soon as the rain and sub-zero cold go away, but what should I be looking out for - worn struts? As far as I'm aware they're original, so it wouldn't surprise me... If this is a likely problem, where should I be looking for new struts?

Many thanks.

Check all the shock mounts just in case a bolt has come loose, that would make a clicking noise, if you cant track it down load a buddy in the boot and go for a drive [:D]

Could be a few things. Worn struts probably wouldn't click unless they were far gone. Duff bushes could be one, or something to do with the brake shoes not being fully clipped in.

Is there any more info on when the noise is heard? is it when the suspension compresses, or when it unloads?

Cheers gents.

Will check shock mounts too, and find a small friend with a good ear and get them in the back! Don't think it's brake shoes, as it's not related to braking, plus they've not been changed recently and they've not done it before. (Not that that guarantees they're still clipped in, of course!)

When I push down on the back of the car, the clunk sounds like something compressing / unloading - hence I think the strut. But when I drive, the clicking noise comes quite frequently, generally over bumps (can't tell if when compressing or unloading, will listen more carefully) but it also happens when the shell of the car is "twisted", e.g. adverse camber, uneven road surfaces - which I think might be the hatch clicking as the car flexes...?

I had a nasty cracking sound from the back of my S2, and it was caused by the tailgate glass coming un bonded from the metal frame at the top near the hinges..

Pretty sure it's not a CV joint, the noise isn't CV joint clicking - had that before.

Could possibly be the glass coming loose, I'll check that.

Cheers gents.
