Clicking noise from wipers

its driving me mad! when set to 'on' the wipers make a servo type clicking / ticking noise at the point when they reach the bottom of the screen (normal resting point).
This noise sounds like the noise when they are set to intermittent and a relay or something tells it to switch on and off.
There is no noise if the wipers are set to fast.

Is this normal?? What causes it??

Thanks for your help in advance!

It could be the wiper actuator arm hitting the thin plastic cover beneath the winsdscreen. Have you disturbed this recently? Perhaps when checking the battery? Try listening from outside the car with your ear near the bottom of the windscreen. If it is the plastic cover which is the problem, the noise will be coming from the steering wheel side (assuming RHD).

I had the same the other week. It was down to me fitting the nearside wiper the wrong way round. I hadn't spotted which way the curved side faced, and by facing it the wrong way (down) the far end off the wiper touched the plastic cover.
Mupperty!! Swapped it round - all was well.
Hope this helps.
