clicking noise

Driving yesterday i noticed a clicking noice from the nearside rear wheel, it sounded like a stone in my tire on closer inspection no stone, then when driving slowly a chaffing, slight grinding noise at speed again a clicking, could this be a break caliper spring or wheel bearing or even a stone.......any ideas?
i will borrow my mates trolly jack later and have a look so any ideas would be helpful
 
my volvo something like this and it was a missing spring on the brake assembly - the purpose of the missing spring being to hold a moving part of the caliper steady/ open.
