Whoah! Good find!

Includes replacement screen ... I wonder where they are sourcing those from? Having hunted high and low for them a couple of years back, I came across numerous dead ends: from Porsche, from VDO, from specialist screen suppliers.

I presume "Core Charge" is an additional amount they charge, refunded when you send your old unit back.

Oli.

Yeah that looks excellent, especially given the silly money new ones cost. Pity there is no one in the UK offering a similar service. [&:]

Hmmm, odd, it's an S2 with the battery in the engine bay. Perhaps it's an American thing?

On ebay a guy is offering this service, but after a few emails to him he gets the replacement LCD screens from the USA and charges about £45. A guy on USA ebay sells the screens for about $35, but a LCD screen should cost about £3, so I am trying to track the supply down and order some.

I have a PDF I can post a link to that helps to fit the screens, no solder needed. Just need to track a screen down the right size.......

Fitting them is a cinch. Getting hold of them is impossible.

A common screen of that sort of size should cost well under a pound, but I guess it's possible that someone shelled out for a short production run of them, made to copy the existing one. That would bring the price up a lot. If you do find it's a common size, available commercially, I'll be very impressed. (That's exactly what I tried to do, without success.)

Oli.

ETA: I also looked into having some custom ones made up, as I suggest that USA eBay guy may be doing. Prices I had were for a run of 1000 (smallest run possible), and it worked out at about £30 a screen.

I ordered one from the states via rennlist a few months ago. Its still not got to me. A fellow buyer from the UK tells me that on top of the price you pay the supplier, UK customs and excise sting you for more money. All in all it may end up costing me close to £60 - Ouchie.[]
I will post a thread once it arrives and photograph the procedure.

Even with all the add ons thats still much cheaper than sourcing a new one (assuming the thing ever arrives from across the pond of course...)
