Clonking sound small concerning!!!

As I pull away and I guess 'dissengage' the clutch there is a 'clonk' from somewhere under the car. Anything to worry about??

This does not match with any sounds I've had (and I had to get my clutch replaced a while back so I suppose I'm saying it may not be clutch related). I've be more suspicious of a suspension linkage.

Do you get it even if you pull away really gently?

it does also make the noise when i pull away gentle but not as often if that makes any sense. im having all the suspension done at centre gravity this month anyway so im relaxed if that the case

I'd have thought that the most likely culprits would be drive shaft couplings - the clonk may be the 'slack' being taken up as you pull away.

I'm not sure as I've never had to have that sort of repair done (yet!). Probably best to go to your local indy and get them to have a look and quote - that way you'll know for sure what's wrong and also have an idea of costs.

Hi david,do you have an early 993,there were some problems with the drive flanges that go into the gearbox, they did make the noise you described.

I was also going to suggest DMF as my 996 suffered such a failure. If the transmission is loaded up during engine braking then as you pulled away there would be a noticeable thump in the drivetrain. Nothing metallic and more like a deep thunk. I thought that the 964/993s used and different a hardier make of flywheel?

Tks for this. It's sometimes un noticable so I'm thinking what's the worst Can happen if I just leave it....

the worst that can happen,is it could damage you crankshaft bearings if its knackered enough to cause an in balance
