Club Membership

End of my second consecutive year of membership , in this spell , was also member years ago, the last few weeks I thought long and hard whether I was still a 'club' type and I don't only mean PCGB as I also have interests in other things.

Anyway, kept away from the forum for a while, then popped in occasionally, read a few posts but didn't comment on anything.

Anyway, I've let my other club subs lapse but did renew PCGB this morning.

And so we continue ...

Nice to hear, Paul. [:)]

It's been strange to watch the internet take over probably 90% of what I wanted from my Club membership ten years ago. The forums are free, advice and technical info is free, TBH you don't need to pay anything to get many of the benefits from PCGB, Tipec or the Facebook groups.

But, nothing beats real life. If you've not done so yet, get to Rutland for the New Year run. Try the local PCGB and Tipec regions, see where you fit in, and enjoy the hundreds of events every year.

I have an agenda, I suppose, but I would leave the Club tomorrow if I didn't get more from it than the nominal cost of membership. I worry that Clubs will have less relevance if people choose free internet options, but I've seen from work forums that free sites are killing things in the same way that free music downloads could threaten creativity.

Bit of a personal rant, but I do feel that paid-up Clubs have a future that's worth preserving. [:)]

Paid up clubs are definitely on the endangered list as are a lot of club forums, Facebook is hammering the nails in very quickly.

I do have a good circle of friends locally that are/were club members, we do tend to just do our own thing though as opposed to fully club organised runs etc.

I will add that our regional contact, Mike Trotter, is a good lad and if it wasn't for his enthusiasm rubbing off I probably wouldn't have bothered.

Will get out and about a bit more next Summer.

Cheers, Paul
