Club Sport Steering Wheel or 3 Spoke inlaid crest from Type 911???

Hello All

I fancy a 3 spoke design steering wheel, but in keeping with all things Porsche I would like to keep things as original ish!!! as possible.

Now do I go for an original Clubsport as fitted to the 968 or has anyone got a 3 spoke with inlaid Porsche crest, the same as Type 911 sell on their website.

I have heard some of you say the leather is not in one peice on the Type 911 wheel??? Is this a negative, as I really like the look of this one.

Any comments gratefully received

Cheers

The Type 911 wheel is fine and feels very good - mine came from Porscheshop but they are pretty much all the same. As noted the leather is lapped at the spokes where as on an original CS wheel the only join is central to the bottom spoke.

IMHO the CS wheel is far better quality but then it is more expensive. In retrospect, and had I known then what I know now, I might have gone for the CS wheel. That said, I'm not about to change now.

Another point is, with sports seats, I have to squeeze between the seat bolster and the wheel which can graze the leather rim if wearing anything metal. The leather can also get damaged when wearing s/steel watch straps. Whilst disapointing to scratch a £200 wheel it would be pretty devastating to damage one twice that price.

Ya pays ya money, ya takes ya choice.

Hi John

Thanks for the comments.

The wheel I have been looking for has an inlaid crest bag, I believe yours is stuck to the surface of the leather. I do not know if this means they are any differences quality wise???

I will try and get to see one in the flesh to see what I think first if possible

Although if any one has the wheel with inlaid crest would love to hear what you think.

Thanks[:)]

I have one similar to Johns and my metal badge is inlaid in to the leather - I love the look and feel of it. It was £250 inc vat fitted from JZ Machtceh by the previous owner.

I've attached a compilation of 4 steering wheels that I happen to have in my picture files [8|]

Top left is my CS style, top right is a genuine RS style, bottom left is a Sparco and bottom right is a Momo. Most of the big aftermarket brands do also sell Porsche badges to fit in the centre (as you can see)

Hi Paul

Cheers for those photos and yes it looks like the one I need is the wheel you have.

Would you mind sending me some larger pics so I can have a closer look at it.

I should have stuck my head inside your car at the Jam sport roling road day and had a look then.[]

Thanks once again

You have mail.

I got the price wrong though - it was £245 +vat. The quality has lasted really well and it's been on the car since June 2001 and covered 43,000 miles

You lot make me feel almost normal[;)][;)][;)]

Where were you on Sunday Andy? We had another pub meet at Heckfield, but the only other cars were a bunch of Calibras this time [:D]

My invite must have got lost in the post [:(][:(]

Anyway I would probably feel a bit marginalised by you & the Calibra boys - what with your collection of steering wheel pictures[;)]

Did your mate with the speed gun get any more readings or am I still the reigning bad boy?

I've recently bought a used (although in perfect condition) wheel the same as Flamingeye's, although is black rather than blue leather. Thanks to Paul for pointing out the ad, it was a rather nice £206 all in. It feels great and is very good quality, no unsightly overlapping or glued areas visible. I'd hightly recommend it. It's the first wheel on this page.
