Does anyone have any history on a 968 club sport in black,L11 KMT,presently advertised on Pistonheads.I am interested in buying the car.Any help would be much appreciated.

I'd ask about the strangely high rear suspension.

A couple of posts about it on http://www.porsche968uk.co.uk/ this year and when it was for sale last year. Its been on ebay in the last few weeks as an auction but it looks like all the bids were cancelled http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1994-L-PORSCHE-968-CS-CLUB-SPORT-BLACK-FSH-TRACK-CAR-/280567412252?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item41531ef61c (it was up at about £6k last time I looked).

CS with sunroof? I thought part of the lightening of the coupe to become the CS was no sunroof (amongst other things!). Like Paul RN above, I remember seeing comments about this car on 968UK - and IIRC they were not too complimentary! The back end does not look correct - certainly my coupe does not have its rump in the air the way this one does.

Many Club Sports do have sunroofs, in fact Club Sports without sun roofs are extremely rare. I have read some non too complimentary things about this car but unfortunately I can't remember where -sorry[:(]

Is this the one where it's the new owner's responsibility to source the V5 for it? If so I didn't read any further...

I think this car has been "around" for a while,
If its the same car it was advertised on Pheads a while ago + struggled to sell, for whatever reason.[At around £7K]...
Ive looked long and hard at the pics + personally i think its NOT right, It sits way to high at the back. The seats dont look like they are the correct CS versions , more like aftermarket.???
The panel gaps at the front dont look good ,
Its sat on track rubber which could mean its had some hard track use, but many have.
It says its got the "M030 pack" do they know what that includes or do they just think its the seats.????????? A lot of folk/traders dont know there way round these cars, + just fluff there way through...
But as ever its buyer beware... + unless somebody has actually seen it in the flesh , all the abouve could just be hot air...[8|][8|][8|]

http://www.porsche968uk.co.uk/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=7753 is the thread we're all trying to remember, you have to be a 968UK forum member to access it.

It's been on eBay a couple of times - first time the bidding got to £6500 then they pulled the listing and cancelled all the bids, second time they were looking for £9500, got an offer of £8995 but pulled the listing - but it's still on Pistonheads - http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2108284.htm. They trade under 2 names - Pure Performance Cars and Buchanan Motors - and their eBay feedback rating is only 91.7%. Hmmmm......

Thanks for the replies. The car can be bought for £7500.Service history is comprehensive, as are the number of owners. The sellers are very upfront on the phone.Seats do look correct with painted backs. There is a suggestion of possible inner wing repair and new wing, but hpi clear. But at £7500 are we all being too fussy?Surely with 12 owners there must be someone out there who remembers owning it.

I'm with Big Dave on this one (hi mate, long time!)

The stance of the car is all wrong, it is sitting very high at the back. A properly set up CS should actually sit slightly nose high. Just google some pics of Club Sports and you'll soon see what I mean.

Those are definitely not the correct seats either. I have pics of various CS's that I looked at when hunting for a car, and those are not the same as the proper Porsche ones. There should also be a parcel shelf affair where the rear seats are, which is missing on this car, and it has the wrong luggage blind too.

All this is deduced from just looking at a few pics, I suspect I'd find a lot more I didn't like about it if I saw it in the flesh. I'd be VERY suspicious of this car, if for no other reason than that if it is a genuine Club Sport, it is unusually cheap. My guess is that it is a car with a past, and I'd tread very carefully.

I've just had a closer look at some of those photos, and compared them to my library of pics of genuine 968 CS's that I have.

I'd stick my neck out and say that this is NOT a genuine Club Sport, but an earlier car that has been cobbled up to look like one. It has a sunroof, and door rubbing strips, most unusual on a CS, plus the "Club Sport" graphic on the side is in the wrong place compared to pics of an original one. At best it has been re-sprayed and a new (non Porsche) graphic added. At worst, it's a fake.

Add everybody else's comments together (and read those threads too) and I wouldn't touch this with a bargepole.

[:'(]

Edit ... after a bit more rummaging I will concede that CS's did have sunroofs, and a few had the side rubbing strips. This car also seems to have wind up windows too, which perhaps suggests it is genuine. I still wouldn't touch it though.

Whatever you do, PLEASE go in with your eyes WIDE open + ask LOTS of probing questions.
If you can + i definately would is to find out the last few owners + see if you can get some of its past history from them as the current seller wont know anything, as they are traders...And from posts ive seen / read elsewhere, not very reputable ones at that....[8|][8|]
It could be worth £5K though....???????????

PS , Hi John. Hope you and yours are ok.

I am going to view the car on Thursday.I see you also live in Fife John H,fancy a trip?

Esme ...Ordinarily I would be delighted to help, but I will probably be in Aberdeen that day. Where are you based? I think this thread should have given you lots of ammunition though.

@ Big Dave ... my Maine Coons say hello! [:D]

Edit ... checked my diary, can do Thursday, PM sent! [;)]

(Tried to send this by email, but it bounced, so posted below)

David,

I put out a request for info on this lot on a private car forum I use, where a lot of the guys are from Glasgow. What I got back makes sobering reading Before you consider going to this shower, I suggest you read these threads from various forums.

I think you should look elsewhere.

CS didn't come with an analogue clock, it has a digital clock that also acts as a stop watch. This can be seen in the photos showing the dash board (it's to the left of the cigar lighter).
Seems a long way to go to create a fake - replacing part of the dash!

Thanks for all the replies. When pushed the vendor admitted that it had had an impact to its nearside in its day. This required repairs including the inner wing.I have decided to give the car a miss. However,i do believe it is a genuine club sport with a good history and at £7500,surely it is not the worst buy. These cars are 16 years old and most will have some sort of story. If this car was absolutely correct with those miles, someone like G Mund cars would try and take £17k from you. Thanks again, might go and offer £6k!

Even if it is a genuine CS there are far too many questions still to be answered, looking again at the images the nearside headlight appears to be sunk into the headlight pod bay for instance, why is the rear suspension so high. Why non-original seats.

If you are still going to put an offer in, get me the chassis number and I can tell you whether it is a genuine CS.
