Hi All
Happy new year etc.
I'm over from the 3.2 forum as I want to buy a decent 968 CS.
Would like to hear from anyone who has or knows of one for sale.
Pref Yellow or white but will consider others.
regards
Graham

How 'decent' ;)

Mine is always for sale, but at a price i don't think anyone would want to pay! Decent ones are hard to come by these days, if you have not already checked out Stu's 968uk forum, it is worthwhilst to give you some good background to their foibles.

Is it specfically a CS that you are after, what is your intended use for the car?

All the best in your search - a mighty fine choice.

Hi JP,
Nice car, although I suspect you would not want to sell it really.
I know they are not easy to find, certainly not proper cars anyway, so I will have to be patient. Trouble is that I am porscheless at the moment, big hole in the garage that my son is gradually taking over with his MX bikes.
I have just sold my 911, reason for sale was that the car was just too good to use regularly. Did the show scene, won loads, great fun, but you grow out of it.
I want a car that I can use on a more practical basis, and also one that I can do trackdays. Son is doing a Motorsport Engineering degree course and is involved with a racing team F3 and they get to use Castle Coombe, so it makes sense to have a suitable car, and a 968 CS is the choice.
How decent?.....as good as I can find..not expecting to get a cheap one.
any help appreciated, as I say, I will just have to wait until the right car comes along. There is a lovely one on Pistonheads..trouble is its in Ireland!..if that was in England I would be very tempted.

Promax were advertising a CS for someone, it had comfort seats though and although the head had been rebuilt I don't think there were many goodies on it, could be the basis for something nice if the price is right maybe, and the guy that's selling it paid bottom dollar I think.

If the colour does anything for you:

(Paul - hope i am not standing on your toes [;)] ....don't you have a rather good spare car...a couple of buckets...rear shelves and carpets come up on ebay a few times a year)

Great car for daily use - i used mine at times as a daily driver. Can be uncomfortable when in traffic on those occasional hot days - black interior, hot gearbox tunnel, average cool air blower (helps to take the pollen filters out)

It is good that you are willing to wait - the right one will come around eventually, although not having looked properly at them for a few years, it must be a mine field trying to get a good one these days.

If you are free on Friday 6th March - come over to Oulton, you will be made very welcome.

Hi JP,
Thanks for that, don't know about the Maritime Blue, though my son likes it...only because it is the same colour as his Yamaha MX bike...yeah a good reason to buy it!
as you say, I will have to be patient..took me a long time to find the 3.2 carrera, and saw a load of dogs in the search. 968 Cs,s are rarer I know so ....wait and try not to let the money burn a hole in my pocket. Problem is I need a toy!!!!
regards
Graham

Only point to add is that the basic i.e. not an M030 equipped CS is no different really to a standard 968. The front springs are a little shorter (same rate though) and the rear is a little lower, you have much less kit and this IMHO ruins the car. I know it is maybe a controversial opinion but for a track project I wouldn't waste my money on a CS, the standard 968 is such a wonderful car as it is (I own one). IMHO if you want a car to make into a track day project or a race car a decent 944 S2 (I own of these to) or 944 turbo is a much more cost effective place to start. I think you have to really lust after a CS and hate 944's to pay that much extra for the 968.

Comparing the 2 cars in stock trim is a different matter however, the 968 is a much nicer car then the typical 944 S2 IMHO.

Sorry for the negative response but I hope to save you some money.

Interesting, although I always wondered why the original owners ordered their 968 CSs with sunroofs. Loss of rigidity and the extra weight goes against the whole principle of the thing really.

My impression is that the CS was much more a matter of building down to a price than producing a track weapon. After all sales were very slow thanks to the recession and shifting a car that started in standard coupe form at about £35K OTR can't have been easy. I suspect that most were bought for road use, at least initially, so a sunroof would have been quite desirable, particularly if the car wasn't to have aircon.

Mine has a sunroof and I'm glad it has in some situations. I doubt that I'm capable of registering the reduced rigidity even on track, where the M030 ARBs and strut brace have made a much more significant difference. I'd like to believe the Turbo splitter also helps, but I doubt it - it was much more about the look! [;)][;)][;)]

IIRC the sunroof was a non removable option in the UK same as it was on the 944... bit of scam really

Lali

There's no sunroof on my CS. No bucket seats either which is a shame, but at least our more portly friends can enjoy the car!

John.
