Clubsport

That could be fantastic[8D] 911 'Club Sport' was one of my favourite ever Porsches - perfect balance between road and track.

A bit odd this, folk have been speculating about Clubsport or RS versions ever since the Cayman came out, and lots of press articles have been written about it, but none have come to fruition. Autocar published this overnight on their website, suggesting an embargo date, and it has a ring of authority to it, yet so far I see no sign of this news on any of the other car mag sites. Interesting [;)]

Damn! I so want one of those. It seems the credit crunch has brought Porsche to a "Road to Damascus" moment and they, once again, see that Porsche produce sports cars. We are back to a car that the man in the street can drive all week and race at the weekend. It is also refreshing to see that they are (seemingly) now committed to developing the Cayman to unleash its full potential rather than shackle it so it doesn't embarrass its big brother. This is already evident with the Gen2 where several journalists have hailed it as the best Porsche available today. Well done Porsche.

In the latest Autocar they rate the new Boxster even more highly, suggesting it could be the best car in the world !

Not for those of us modest types who would rather not have people see us while driving.....and then there's torsional rigidity, boot space, security, reduced drag, reduced weight, residual value, image [8|] [;)]

"Race Spec" let's see if they do it and maybe at last a REAL leichtbau Porsche, but I doubt it maybe just another cynical rebadging exercise ... prove me wrong please Porsche ...[8|]

I completely agree Des --- I told big wig at Leeds OPC official opening that they could make it the spiritual successor of the real lightweight --- but I asked for a GT3 lump !!

Indeed, says he sitting in the wings like some vulture waiting for prices to drop more. The comparison was with Boxsters, however, which have next to no residual value what so ever. Boxsters are so cheap that there is little point spending any money on my 944 at all. For anything more than a minor service I would be better blowing out the 944 and getting a Boxster - except I don't like the whole Boxster image, it hasn't the same power, or storage, or security as my 944, has an open top and I want a Cayman S. [8|] Back on thread - the credibility a Cayman race series will generate should up or maintain their value. Consider the 968. It is little more than an S3 944 and no better (if different at all) in many areas, but still commands a price of 50-100% more than a late S2. Image is everything.

Well my LOI has been in for over 4 years - the way residuals are at present i can't see me bothering with it. Lighter and faster it might be but my 3.5 yr old 987S will do me for some time to come; and it offers no more security of my license than a Cayman CS/RS would [&:]
