when I drive my 944 over a cobbled street, the steering wheel does tend to make rattle noises. well atleast I think it's coming from the steering wheel.

I remember an old mk1 golf did the same.

is this quite normal or is something warn?

yes it does sound like the bottom U/J joint doesn't it.
Just had mine replaced last year and I think the part was about £75.00 ? as it comes fitted to the lower shaft and splined joint.

Have you got slight play between the steering wheel and rack?

On my first turbo, I had the same when going down the track to my house and it was indeed the steering Universal joint. Quite a serious rattle from the steering wheel on bumpy surfaces [:)]

Regards Mas

with engine off I have noticed a bit of play.

would love to make steering lighter though! car feel like a leviathon heavy thing compared to when I jump into my new Seat Leon
