Clunking from behind rear bulkhead

I have an RS with 38K on the clock. When I drive over speed bumps (or pot holes etc) I hear a metalic clunking form behind the rear bulkhead. Various specialists have checked for lose mountings etc, but can find nothing. The noise is an irritant! I think it is coming from both the off and near side of the car. Any ideas out there?
