"Clunky" gear changes?

Had my 02 carrera 2 for about a month now and am a bit dissapointed in the gear change/ transmission pick up. It seems to be a real hit or miss whether the gearchange is smooth or not. I've tried loads of different things and when i try and repeat them its a complete lottery. Sometimes it seems perfect the next there's a distinct "snatch" either the clutch not releasing smoothly or something slack/worn in the transmission. Any body else had this or do they all do that! (as suggested by the opc when queried and they thought it was me not being used to the car). Also sometimes when stationary and selecting first theres a slight clunk as it engages, other times nothing, is this normal?

It did it in my last gearbox and the same exactly in my new one just fitted. I have a 2000 C2.

Yup. and reverse. But clunky is the wrong word. Just stiff. Like you feel a large click.
I just had it serviced too by my independent and they said it was normal.

I have owned a 03 C2 Cab for 6 months now and it is the same but only when cold. After 10/15 mins or so it is then fine, having read other threads here it seems that this is a 'characteristic' of the car.

I have 98 C4 34.000 miles, the gearbox is stiff when cold and i tend to be very easy with it, when it warms up and i think this can take some time not just 15mins, then it because nice and easy still quiet tight. I would not say it snatches though.

I have a habit from days of yore of selecting first just before reverse, clutch still depressed, seems to reduce any clunks finding reverse. Agree with the others that much better once well warmed up - car is a 98 C2, 37k miles.

seems there might be something not quite right then. I appreciate that when oil temperatures etc are up the gearchanges will be better but this doesn't explain why there different from each other with seconds apart at times. I did some research into the car and i've been told a clutch was fitted back in september so maybe somethings not been lined up quite right? Like i said theres definately some slack or snatch in the transmission somewhere.
