Clutch biting high?

Took my car to Exmoor for a couple of days over the weekend, more of that later.
One thing that really bugs me is that the clutch bites high and is hard to judge resulting in difficult and very unprofessional hill starts and things. Its only done 20k and is light in action and shows no other evidence of malfunction but the biting point is a real PITA. Is this usual?
Exmoor in a 996t? Roads are a bit narrow and very bumpy so not helping progress especially when the curb side is under water so you don't know how deep the potholes are.
Surprisingly poor torque off boost means a lot of gear swapping to get up the hills. Sadly no real opportunities to get going.
And it rained - alot.
Shame really.

PCM2 is really useless! Set the satnav to get to our destination but for the last 10 miles all I had was an arrow crossing a green screen. Only large towns were actually marked!
I know the system is poor but am I likely to be missing updates?

Just in case, check the clutch fluid reservoir under the panel on the LHS of the battery (as you look at it). If it is overflowing, there may be a problem with the accumulator. Check the PAS pump isn't low, because that is where the fluid comes from. A bit unlikely, I know, but it is a simple check.

As for the PCM, the map disks aren't up to date, even when they are issued. The latest is 08.2012, but the software needs to be at Version 3.0 for it to work. I'll drop you an email with details.

I find that quite surprising because I am really happy with my off boost performance. So much so that I dont feel that 994t urge when the blower gets going, it just pulls and pulls and pulls, but I don't have a std exhaust, maybe that helps
