Clutch Costs

Help!

My 944 S is in need of a clutch.

The biting point is right at the top and when veiwing the slave piston through the bell housing window, I read a measurement of 25mm. (Clark's Garage suggest a new clutch to be 18mm and a worn out one 34mm?!) It is not slipping yet but a trip to the Nurburgring will soon fix that.

Clutches seem to cost in the region of £400. Does any one know of any way of sourcing and changing the clutch cheaply?
(I am considering changing it myself)

£400 is slap bang in the ballpark for the cost of parts and I doubt you'll find one much cheaper.

DIY is the only way to save the most money as the labour charge will make up the major part of the overall cost

Funny you should ask ... I have just ordered the parts to do the clutch on my S2. Work planned for weekend after next (10 days time.)

Clutch was cheapest from frazerpart, who I have used before and are very good. http://www.frazerpart.com/ is their website. The S2 clutch was £395, and if yours is an S then it will take the same part. Add in other bits which seem to be worth doing at the same time (rear main seal, spigot bearing etc) and some postage and you're looking at the thick end of £450.

I am reckoning two chaps and a good workshop (with a pit and air tools) will be able to do the job in a fairly heavy weekend.

Oli.
