clutch creak

Need bit of help if anyone can offer some wisdom...

Recently bought a boxster s... MY2004 986. Driven about 200 miles but have just noticed a creaking from the back of the car whenever i press/release the clutch.

Any thoughts on what it could be ? Some searching on the web brought up issues relating to the bell-housing (but i think that was on pre-2003 cars). I have the same sort of creak on my 993 but i think that relates to the slave cylinder.

The car has done 24,000 miles - any thoughts appreciated!

Thanks

Hi

Sorry to say - but it is probably the cltuch springs creaking - if you may notice your clutch pedal becoming heavier , and then the biting point moving further down , then the spring are getting tired. This occured on my Boxster. Weakness in design

Cheers thanks for the reply! are the clutch springs at/near the rear of the car? noise definitely not coming from pedal area...

Also, is there any way to replace the springs ?

Thanks again!

Sorry new clutch. I replaced mine because although I could live with its heaviness , slippage was not ocuuring, I did not want it letting go suddenly when I was out and about !

Goofy - fyi i've submitted a goodwill warranty claim for mine.

Creaking only comes about when the clutch has been used a few times (i.e. in traffic or after 20-mins of driving).

Not holding my breath on the warranty claim though... guess i would have needed a new clutch at some point, but annoyed that i've been forced into it! Did you ever buy/install the gt3 skirts ? been thinking about the same (if not too expensive)...

Hi Scaramanga,

Good idea - nothing to loose putting in a claim. After all it's not the friction disc that goes (wear & tear) , but it seems weak springs on the clutch plate. Poor durability in some....enough said on this subject !

I am looking into side skirts and may do them in the spring. I think they look fantastic especially with the right tyre wheel combination. I believe they are quite easy to fit through clips etc. Let me know how you get on.

no joy re warranty claim... have to get clutch replaced (as problem appears to be the pressure plate or the clutch springs). car is only 1 year out of warranty but porsche refused the claim (despite admitting the parts are defective!)

re the side-skirts, if helpful/cheaper to order as a pair, count me in!

picked up my car today (with new clutch fitted).... creak has disappeared.... was defective pressure plate (which gets replaced as part of the clutch)

I moaned when I bought my car. They did the RMS, and whilst the gearbox was out I paid for the clutch

i used RSJ in slough (they recently hired a chap called Sid, ex OPC Hatfield mechanic). Understand wrightune are very good also (would have gone there but the timings didn't work out for me). Wrightune seem to be very experienced and offer the cruise retrofit which i would have liked....

anyway, RSJ did a super job, cost was around £800 (which seems to be average based on a phone quotes a got before deciding).

no problem to me!

PCM software version 3.0 or higher, dated 08/2003. They are real Porsche ones and have the Harmann / Becker logo and navtech logo on the back cover.
