Clutch for 996

On Friday whilst proceeding a little energetically, I think I frazzled my clutch - it now seems to slip a little when accelerating briskly. Fine if driving gently (I don't think my wife noticed when she had the car yesterday!). JZ cannot fit it in until 23rd June - HROwen until 14th June (but nearly TWICE the price!).

Anyone got an alternative in / near East Herts? Got any opinions as to how many miles it will last (only do 30 miles a week)??

Ta!

There is firm called Porschons who are Kimpton. They seem to specialise in 911's but rather more the older cars. I haven't used them but did use their predecessor Pro-Tech whose staff seemed to have moved to Porschons. I can't find their telephone number but I am sure that either Dirctory Enqs. can help or their is a website listing 1000's of independent Porsche garages. I can't find that either at the moment ! If you have any probs. in finding 'em then let me know and I'll research further. If you use them, then please let me know since I had planned to use 'em in the future and it'll be good to get any feedback. I doubt that anyone'll be able to do your clutch musch faster than then the times you have already been given.
Steve.

How do you know the clutch is slipping?

I have feeling that mine is starting to go but how can I test it to be sure? Do the revs race away with no gain in speed?

The car is coming up to its 48K service so maybe this is one of the things I should have checked and sorted.

Any views?

It was first apparent by a rather acrid smell of burning clutch linings after a 'energetic' run! Followed by clutch slip when accellerating on about 1/2 to 3/4 throttle from about 2,000 revs; just as torque is rising rapidly. As long as I keep the trottle at about 1/4 & change up at around 2,000 revs, the slippage is not apparent.

I only hope I can keep this up for another 4 weeks!

Tony,

Don't drive it unless it is absolutely necessary.

Mine showed the same symtoms and a matter of hours later I was stood by the side of the road awaiting recovery!

Another shock that may be instore if you continue to drive, the Flywheel may need replacing as well as the clutch. Mine did and the total price for my clutch failure was £1600, thankfully the dealer I bought my car from picked up that tab (OPC fix)
