[:(]

20 mins ago, stationery and accelerated away not to hard and an almighty bang between first and second gears and total loss of acceleration and cannot engage gear, was able to coast the 500 yards home, the car will not engage any gear - the engine sounds fine but this sounds like a disaster- whats most likely clutch ? or gearbox failure ?[:(]

Whichever Im facing my first expensive bill .
Any help in this moment of despair will be appreciated.

Yeah quite lucky being close to home, car been picked up by recovery company and is on its way to Hartech for diagnosis, clutch was only replaced when purchased 9 months ago , have a feeling its gearbox related , woudnt the clutch be depressed or give any warning at all ? anyway Hartech will soon get the old girl up and running again.

Just left the car with the capable guys at Hartech, early diagnosis looks like gearbox problems here's hoping its minor as Im completing on a house move next week so a huge cost woudnt be the best thing at the moment [:(] Anybody any ideas on worst case scenario eg cost complete gearbox required ? sorry sound pessimistic

Thought it was going to be the clutch so was going to point you here Chris

Bang then no drive - should I just cry now?

If it is the box, I would be inclined to check a few sites - as a guide I found a box here for £550
Porsch-apart

and Design 911 do a exchange/recon for £984 + the dreaded (ouch)
Design 911

and also call round a few Salvage places. Prestige Salvage in Leeds had an S2 box with 68,000 miles on it last time I was there which is only a few weeks ago. 07836 549726 or 0113 2431392 and ask for Neil

Here's hoping it's something minor. Hope you get it all sorted out mate

Andy many thanks mate for your advice and help its good to hear. Hartech have the car at the moment and Im on there LifeTime Plan so Im looking at just parts , labour is paid for by them so if it is new box then a reconditioned one will be the way to go but a couple of hours later Im feeling more optimistic , knowing its in good hands - just hoping that's its something minor .

On a lighter note - boss has agreed to lend me a swapper for a few days Im in a Daewoo Lagunza Auto in Brown [:'(] so please Hartech repair my car asap as a 944 to a 1.6 Auto that rattles can only be tolerated for so long ( yes I know be grateful he's giving you a car ) [;)]

The log book states a ' motor vehicle ' Fen but come on thats got to be something trading standards could look at ! £400 for a 98 R with 49k on the clock - it says it all about the car really and its got leather [:D]

So it had 12 months tax and a full tank of fuel as part of the deal then, I guess. [:D]

Daewoos are worth nothing as soon as the free servicing/warranty period is over AFAIK.

Got the phone call I wanted from Hartech this morning, a bracket had snapped within the gearbox , they have welded it back on and the car is back at no cost exept the towing costs. Thank God because the Auto Daewoo was giving me the blues [:D] . Service at Hartech as usual so far outstanding.

You're not wrong Andy, it had only been gone 2 days but driving it back from Bolton reminded me of the first time I drove it - bloody fantastic - have to admit that I did smile this morning as I had resigned myself to my wallet having to open .
