Clutch Help

Hi,

It would appear that my clutch requires replacing[] although it does not slip the bite point is very close to the top and it's either in or out as regards operation trying to balance between throttle & clutch bite is impossible, Although I would be interested in a second opinion from a more experienced 993 driver if possible?? I would be happy to drive the car over and compare with another 993 (after Christmas) if anyone can help, especially if I am making the wrong assumption[] (I live near Stansted Airport). The car had a clutch at 48k but has now done 120k and I have no record of a change in between. Failing that can anyone recommend a decent make of clutch & where to purchase.

I am regularly in that area and could help you compare but I won't be back from hols until second week in Jan. PM me nearer the time if you still need to compare although it sounds like you need a new one. Alternatively I am sure the independent you use would be able to give you an opinion.

Ian.

Hi Ian,

Thanks for the offer I might well take you up on it, my independents views are that if I am not happy then change it but can't fault it for slipping etc just that its high on the pedal and a tad sharp[] I think they are trying not to spend my money for me if you no what I mean. Enjoy your hols

[] Hello mate , my clutch has just expired also !!! BLAST !!! Just looking into the "cost" side of things and only managed to find a ballpark figure of £800 - £1000 !!! GULP !!!
Have you had any luck yet ?
P.S. I'm not far from you , Widford nr Much Hadam ,
Mat

Hi Mat,

Yes around the 700+vat also I use Autostrasse at Coggershall I have there details if you want them I have used them for all my Porsche's and they are excellent.

[:D] What a Christmas !!! My clutch woes turned out to be nothing more than the clutch pedal sticking half way !!! The action at the time felt like there was no fluid and the pedal was further back than the brake . All i did was pull it back and it's now ok !!!! Just to make sure i stripped out the carpet and cover and gave it all a good spray with oil . Took it up the road without any problems what-so-ever !!! Beats watching James Bond with the in-laws !!!!!

We did a clutch on a 964 c2 last month, there is a new modified guide tube necessary on the early c2s at £46.00 but you should be ok on the 933. With genuine porsche parts it came to just over £600.00. We speicilise in early cars but do all air cooled and older water cooled cars.

Chaps,
short of the workshop manuals, are there any decent articles available on the 993C2 clutch change procedure for the DIY Porsche Wallah.

Also, beyond friction, pressure & thrust, what other components do you recommend be replaced during this procedure?

Re Clutch in general; I would advise that when you have clutch issues it is always good practice to bleed the clutch system as well to see if this improves matters and check for hydraulic leaks. Slave cylinders wear and can fail over time.

I'd hate to see anyone get stiffed for a new clutch if it was not really necessary!!

Happy to give advice to theDIY guy we change the flywheel bearing and gearbox oil seal on the SC with the 915 box but not normaly on 964 or 933 you can take the G50 box out of the cars from 1989 without the engine but be warned the G50 box is very heavy Regards Berny.
