Clutch housing question

I'm just starting to put my 951 engine back together following a burnt exhaust valve and scored bore(s) at Mallory last September.

Having read various articles about clutch replacement etc, the halls sensors at the back of the engine can be a pig to locate and gap correctly.

I've heard it suggested that if you 'slot' the two holes in the clutch cover by simply hacking/ cutting through them you can solve this issue and 'future proof' a lot less hassle when it comes to removing the engine or clutch another time. In addition to this you can very accurately set the .8mm gap between the hall sensors and the flywheel/ ring gear.

Question is, has anyone else done this ? And if you do it, does it affect the structural integrity of the clutch cover ?

Exactly like that one Jim ! Actually notching it/ machining it isn't the issue, its the consequences of doing it and then having issues afterwards ?

Mines like that Chris. I believe a lot of the 944 experienced Indies do it as they know how much easier it makes the job next time. You can't remove the bell housing with the sensors in place on a standard housing so you have to take them out and then relaign them afterwards.

With the slots you can just remove the housing and leave the sensors in place.
