Clutch: Living in denial?

Hello all,

I think my '86 944 Lux needs a new clutch and was wondering if anyone could talk me out of it. The symptoms are:-
1) Some lash on acceleration/deceleration
2) With access plug removed, driveshaft turns through about 1/5 of a full turn (feels rubbery at one end of rotation, hard and metallic at the other end).
3) Vibration at 3000rpm
Other than that, it is driveable and does not have any shudder or lash at take up or when de-clutching.
Everything I've read suggests a new clutch but I can't bring myself to admit to it.....Is there any hope?
Many Thanks.

I'd drive it until it starts slipping. I reckon mine is on it's last legs, it has a notchy feel and the bearings are making funny noises and I believe that one of the failure mechanisms are the clutch bearings. I've decided to stop worrying about it and am just driving it until it starts slipping or some other symptom comes to the fore.

Sounds like it's the rubber centre broken up. You can drive it if you're careful, but don't slam the power through it suddenly. It's horrible to drive like that though and you really want to change it.
