Clutch noise

Wonder if anyone else has had this. On my way in to work this morning i heard a whuring noise when i fully press the clutch pedal right to the floor. If i leave it even half an inch short nothing but push it that little bit more and you get the noise.

The clutch seems fine no problems with that, i thought it might be a temperature thing, It seems louder when colder but maybe thats just in my head.

Also just while i'm on i am taking the car back into the dealers because i keep having an oil indicator failure on the trip computer followed by the needle on the oil pressure going down to zero then 2 seconds later it goes straight back to ok and where it was. I have read on previous posts when i searched it that it is quite a common little fault something to do with the small pressure switch which converts oil pressure into electrical signal at dash but will this work be covered under the porsche warranty?

Cheers.

Hi Iain. I had exactly the same problem with the oil pressure sender. I was on the motorway and the gauge just dropped off to zero. It was so sudden that I looked in my rear view mirror for the 8 litres of engine oil that I thought would be on the road - a bit like the James Bond car that had the same facility. Needless to sat all was well and it was just the oils pressure sender which sits on top of the engine. Had mine done under warranty.

Can't help you much with the clutch - but could it be the thrust bearing getting a bit worn?

Adrian.

Thanks for that adrian, I thought it might be a warranty thing.

Do you think i should raise the clutch noise at the dealers? Being a clutch i know it won't be covered under warranty but a bearing might be?

I would agree, sounds just like when the clutch release bearing broke up on my Boxster.

Turns out the clutch release bearings are not very erm.. heavy duty and so start to break up and wear out with time.

Worth getting the whole clutch changed, rms and the clutch fork replaced at the same time

Thanks for the info, The clutch seems fine there is no issues with that at all so its a bit of an outlay for a clutch bearing if thats what it is.

How much is a replacement clutch etc? would i have to have it done at the main stealers as the car is under warranty?

Having just bought the car how could i find out if the clutch has been done before? i tried to ask the OPC and they said they couldn't tell me because they can't give out details of these things.

Any help/advice would be appreciatted.

Just to finish of the post i have just heard back from the porsche garage regards the noise. They stripped out the box and found it was the fork which was broken not the clutch release bearing. As the car has now done 37k without a clutch replacement as far as i could see i thought it would be a good idea to have the clutch replaced whilst there at it along with checking RMS etc.
All in all it hasn't worked out to bad i think they are asking me for £400 for parts (new clutch etc) but could work out well for me in the fact i won't have to do it in 5k or 10k miles for 3 times the cost.

Thanks for your posts anyway very helpful.
