Clutch Pedal not Coming Up

a couple of weeks after buying my 1983 944 the clutch pedal has taken it on itself to stay about two inches from the floor. so far i've checked that:

The Spring to pull it back is still in place

clutch fluid is okay (but looks black - seals may need replacing)

there isn't much sign of seepage around the master and slave cylinders

there isn't air in the system

As it was parked outside in a bad frost i'm not sure whether the seals could have shrivelled but now fixed themselves. It drives fine, engaging and disengaging correctly, and isn't getting worse.

I've had this happen but I can't think which car. I'm fairly sure it was my current Turbo. In any event it was very rare and I didn't even attempt to fix it (but I will if it still does it after it goes back together).

A new servo is on order, [8|]

........ on a clutch ???? I trust you mean clutch master cylinder or clutch slave cylinder. I once had a non-return clutch pedal..... fixed by replacement of the slave cylinder. Interesting that there were no leaks from the seals [8|]

Oh yes, i meant either that or that other thing. I've been advised it could be the master or slave cylinders, their seals, or the pipe running between them.

I'll pass all this on to the garage who kindly warrantied it for a year three weeks ago when i bought it.[:)]

ByTheWay, thanks everyone who emailed helpful advice and photos straight away - much appreciated!
