Clutch pedal stuck..new problem

retroreject

Got in car this morning, pressed clutch pedal and it stuck to floor. Had a look under bonnet to discover reservoir chamber by firewall was empty. Now im a bit confussed as ive looked online and in the dreaded haynes book, and it only shows one joint reservoir (for brake and clutch), so what is this one by the firewall for?. Do some models have a second?? Ive attached a pic of my engine bay. Anyway..i looked under the car to discover fluid dripping down off the starter motor, so im presumming something has happened to the clutch slave cylinder. Got a new one on order from the Porsche shop (the website). Ive topped the bottle up again, but pedal still has no resistance. Ile have to bleed the system, but is there anything else that could have caused this to happen ? [&o]

That is indeed the clutch reservoir on RHD cars. Haynes book of lies and most internet sites cover LHD cars

It sounds like you've already correctly diaganosd the slave cylinder has gone (or maybe the hose right next to the slave)

I think your diagnosis is correct retro. not sure what the haynes manual was showing you but the reservoir in your pic is the correct one and your symptom is either master or slave cylinder failure( had both myself in the past). Since you have fluid under the car then slave is the one to start.. word of warning once you have fitted the slave you may find the master fail shortly after as it may give up the ghost due to the new slave no longer being the weak link. Of course your master may be fine just letting you know what happened to me...lol

Luckily both master and slave are relatively cheap parts.

Hi

Where is the oil under? If its under the bell housing - watch out for a contaminated clutch - it should be ok but did hve the problem on an old van!

No it was on the bottom of the starter. Couldnt properly see as it was on a jack, but im guessing its got a slow leak from something in that area. £50 for a replacement slave, or £28 for repair kit. Not worth arsing around trying to fix old one for that sort of price, so ive gone for the replacement. Fortunatley ive a mate who works for a garage, so ile get in into his for inspection.
