Clutch replacement

When you say manifold Do you mean the exhaust manifold? only there's no need to take off the inlet one?? Also the gearbox has to be completely dropped out, unbolt it from the torque tube drop the box to the floor and you'll be able to slide the torque back more than enough to gain access to the clutch. Only other way is to cut out the spare wheel well!!!
 
I spent about 10 hrs on the car yesterday and still have not even managed to get the box out of the car. Follwed Clarks garage guide and it is pretty basic and does not go into much detail. I have so far removed inlet manifold, whole exhaust including cross over, drive shafts, crank position sensor, snapped stud in down pipe [:mad:]. Does anyone have a good guide as to how to do a clutch change. The box is only about 1cm from the spare tyre well and I dont see how I can drop it without taking off the rear beam. The car is a 944t with lsd oil cooler box.
 
The box should come down easily if taking off the two bolts that hold the cross brace onto the shell.
 
The clarks garage guide said to remove inlet manifold and cross over exhaust pipe. I thought it was a bit excessive but didnt want to get stuck with the car up on a ramp with the box hanging off to find I need to remove the inlet. Cheers guys I will have a look at the guides.
 
Its a big job but with the gearbox out you have a lot of space to push the torque tube back much easier in the long run
 
Sorry, should have elaborated in my last post. The job is pretty simple on an S2. I don't know how much added complication comes with a turbo, but in general it's pretty much just a matter of taking stuff off in a logical order. Getting the 'box detatched is a pain if you take the mount off, but as TTM said, it bolts to a cross-member, which could make the job easier; if you unbolt the cross-member (one bolt at each end, very easy to get to), you should be able to drop the whole lot; 'box, cross-member and all. Removing the inlet manifold does sound wrong. I can't imagine why you'd need to do that. Oli.
 
I needed to get inlet off to get access to the top bolts of the cross over pipe. Also I snapped a bolt in the downpipe and it allowed better access. Its a good time to put my 55lb injectors anyway. Also found a split inlet gasket so worth while.

There's not a fat lot to get wrong, as if you put it together wrongly then you can't get on to the next stage (IYSWIM!) It's worth making a bit of a note of the order that various bits come out tho'. As it saves a lot of guesswork ... Oli.
