Clutch Replacement

My OPC is currently replacing a leaking Intermediate Shaft Oil Seal under warranty. They have advised me that the clutch is 35% worn ( I have been experiencing some judder, which is one of the reasons that the car is with them) and will replace it for the price of the parts with the labour covered by the warranty. This seems fair but they have quoted the price of the clutch parts as £580 which even after PCGB discount will still be over £500. This is higher than I expected and I would appreciate any feedback on how much other people have been charged for a clutch (997 C2S)

Seems like a lot to me - mind you, have you seen the new prices on the PSE's?![&:]

These aren't OEM but they're worthy of comparison: http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Porsche_911_3.8_2006/p/Car-Parts/Transmission/Clutch-and-Associated-Parts/Clutch-kits

If the judder is due to oil contamination and you have only used 35%. Offer to pay 35% of the cost of the parts as you have been deprived of the full life cycle by a warranteed failure. Good luck!

good response.

Thanks Geoff, good suggestion. I tried your arguement but with no success. They were adamant that there was no oil contamination on the clutch plate. So in the end it cost me £504 for a new clutch, with the PCGB discount. The clutch/transmission now feels much smoother so there was obviously something wrong with the clutch unit.

I had a new clutch put in my 2005 997 C2S a couple of weeks ago, as it had started juddering and was getting heavy. The car had done 67,000 miles on it's original clutch. I had it done by Strasse of Leeds, the excellent independent specialist. Parts were £350 inc VAT and fitting was about £350. It now feels 100% better.
