clutch slave cylinder

Ahhh - the car's let me down at last. Clutch pedal goes straight to the floor - and did I hear a 'pop' or is that my imagination?

Anyway, there's a puddle of fluid under the slave cylinder area. Haven't looked closely yet, but is the cylinder likely to fail and squirt out fluid, or is it more likely to be a hose (although I think it's a solid pipe from master to slave cylinder?)

And whilst it's apart is it worth renewing anything else before I top up and bleed it?

Still, it was in the garage when it happened and Iwasn't actually going anywhere for a reason so it could have been worse (or at least more inconvenient [&:])

cheers............Phil

That popping may be the brake master cylinder pumping without liquid inside it.

I think Marc on this forum had the same happen to him, worth waiting for tips from him.

But it is worth cleaning up the liquid ASAP (and carefully) as it is brake fluid [&:]

Unfortunately Phil, yes it is likely to fail, and the pipe is steel right through to the slave cylinder. The slave cylinder failed on my 924 turbo at 63,000 miles, but it was 22years old. If you fancy doing it your self, take out the starter motor(two bolts plus electrical connection), as the slavie is just above it. When I bought mine from Porscheshop, I think it was about £40. There was a subtle difference to the O.E. item in that the pipe entry was at a slightly different angle and the pipe had to be tweeked. I was lucky enough to get a brand new Porsche item on Ebay and it is waiting patiently in the loft until needed. You might want to consider at least resealing the master cylinder. Changing just the slave and bleeding should take about 90 minutes.

Hi
It was the clutch Master cylinder which failed on my car, the rubber inside just gave up the ghost. It was quite a easy item to replace though, and the job was made so much easier by removing the starter motor to get to the slave cylinder. And while the starter motor was off i cleaned it re-painted and re-greesed it too. I would say buy a one man bleeding kit this was the must have gadget to have. I got my Master cylinder from eurocar parts oh and the bleed nipple is quite small if my memory serves me M8 or M6 ring will do the job nicly
